Shadow Base^[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It was a lab used for Project Shadow. The lab was destroyed by mini black hole to kill Team Sonic who were tied up there.

Description[]

Shadow Base is a large underground facility underneath a mountain at an unknown location, with the only known entrance being a set of large doors that lead to the outside. It was operated by G.U.N. prior to its abandonment and eventual destruction. It contains many rooms such as various testing chambers and living spaces. 50 years ago, when it was active it featured both a scientific and military presence.

Over fifty years ago, prior to Master Emerald incident, a secret government program dubbed Project Shadow was going on in Shadow Base. At some point, Maria Robotnik moved to Shadow Base, to stay closer to her grandfather, Gerald Robotnik where she met Shadow the Hedgehog who was in tube and befriended him.

During the raid, where G.U.N. tried to take Shadow away, one of soldiers aimed to shoot at Gerald, Shadow and Maria as they tried to escape. However Captain Walters tried to stop them firing at Shadow and Maria, only for the gun to be accidentally fired at a truck of Chaos energy filled canisters which blew up and destroyed the lab. With Maria being killed instantly, and both Gerald and Shadow were apprehended.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]

Over five decades later, Shadow returned to Shadow Base, accompanied by sad flashbacks of his long lost friend who died. He first reunites with Gerald Robotnik who too returns there following his release from Prison. He tells Shadow about his motives for vengeance against those who supposedly killed Maria.

Moments later, Team Sonic with Robotnik investigate Shadow Base, only to be ambushed by Shadow himself from splitting up. The two Robotniks soon joined forces into (what Ivo thinks) taking over the world with his newly found grandfather. Shadow used a black hole on Team Sonic in an attempt to kill them while tied up but use a ring to escape, leaving the base a destroyed crater in the mountain side.
