Sega Studio USA, formerly known as Sonic Team USA, was a division of Sega and Sonic Team in the U.S. It was founded in 1999 by twelve Sonic Team members, including Takashi Iizuka. The team was located in San Francisco and were set as a subsidiary of SonicTeam Ltd. in 2000. In 2008, the team returned to Japan and thus, Sega Studio USA was merged back into Sonic Team.[1]
