Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. is a company that was formed in 2004 following the merger of Sega and Sammy Corporation.^{[citation needed]} As the company owns Sega, it also owns the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.^{[citation needed]}

Background

In 2004, Sammy acquired Sega under a new company called Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.^{[citation needed]} In 2005, Sammy Golf Entertainment Inc. was renamed to Sega Sammy Golf Entertainment Inc.^{[citation needed]} On 7 March 2005, Sammy Studios, Inc. broke away from Sammy and renamed itself High Moon Studios.^{[citation needed]} On 29 February 2008, Sammy Europe, Ltd. broke away from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.^{[citation needed]} On 31 March 2008, Sega Korea, Ltd. broke away from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.^{[citation needed]}
