Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. is a company that was formed in 2004 following the merger of Sega and Sammy Corporation.[1] As the company owns Sega, it also owns the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.[2]
Background[]
In 2004, Sammy acquired Sega under a new company called Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.[3] In 2005, Sammy Golf Entertainment Inc. was renamed to Sega Sammy Golf Entertainment Inc.[4] On 7 March 2005, Sammy Studios, Inc. broke away from Sammy and renamed itself High Moon Studios.[5] On 29 February 2008, Sammy Europe, Ltd. broke away from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.[citation needed] On 31 March 2008, Sega Korea, Ltd. broke away from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.[6]
