Seaside Hill (シーサイドヒル Shīsaido Hiru?, lit. "Seaside hill") is a recurring location in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a little island with some temples, located near a sea.

The place is very tropical and takes place on hills and cliffs covered with green grass and beautiful beaches on the coast. It appears to be a tribute to Green Hill from the original Sonic the Hedgehog as it has checkered walls and palm trees. In these hills, there are also ruined and flooded temples.

Game appearances

Sonic Heroes

Seaside Hill is the first stage (no matter what team the player is playing with) of Sonic Heroes, the game where it first appeared. The length of the zone also depends on the equipment; with Team Dark it is longer and with Team Rose is shorter.

A snow-covered version of Seaside Hill appears as the venue for the Dream Alpine event in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. At the opening of this Event, just before showing the characters, the camera rotates and gives players a view of the starting gate. Giant fans can be seen blowing artificial snow on stage, so it's safe to assume it doesn't snow here often.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

Main articles: Whale Lagoon, Lost Palace, and Ocean Ruin

Seaside Hill appears as a beginner track in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and is the only stage available in the demo. It is very simplistic, however, it carries many elements of this stage, such as ramps and cliffs. It's also very different, due to the fact that this stage is somehow combined with Ocean Palace and has some elements of the Green Hill Zone, which includes sunflowers and totems, and the Labyrinth Zone, which includes traps and carved stone blocks (very similar to those in the previously mentioned fourth zone of Sonic the Hedgehog). A remixed version of the Sonic Heroes stage music plays. The Chao are spectators on this track.

Sonic Generations

Classic Sonic in Seaside Hill.

Seaside Hill was included in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, where it is the third and final level of the Dreamcast Era, and adds underwater segments. It also includes various segments of Ocean Palace. The cannons of the original are scattered, as well as the return of the giant tortoises and the sled. Despite being based on Sonic Heroes itself, he is more reminiscent of Ocean Palace. If the player completes both Acts, he will save Espio the Chameleon.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Main article: Ocean View

Seaside Hill (mixed with Ocean Palace) is the setting for the Ocean View track in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. There is a segment where a robotic octopus will try to stop the player while he/she is in the water.

Sonic Dash

Main article: Seaside Hill Zone

In Sonic Dash, Seaside Hill is presented as an endless route. This version of Seaside Hill is called Seaside Hill Zone and it has totem poles and wooden bridges as obstacles to dodge along the way.

Sonic Forces

In Sonic Forces, Seaside Hill is mentioned when Espio reports that he is fighting Eggman's forces there, and cannot help the civilians in City.

Team Sonic Racing

In Team Sonic Racing, Seaside Hill appears as one of the main locations in the game. It has three racetracks, each of which explores different aspects of the location.

Team Sonic reunited with Team Rose at Seaside Hill after receiving an invitation from the mysterious Dodon Pa. After the teams encountered Dodon Pa at Seaside Hill, he took them with him on his spaceship to Planet Wisp to compete at his Grand Prix. After that, several teams would come to Seaside Hill on many occasions as part of the Grand Prix and have multiple races there. At the end of the game's events, everyone also gathered here after they destroyed Final Fortress and saved Dodon Pa.
