Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal
Seaside Coast
Next level >>

Seaside Coast is the first area in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. It is a tropical region on the coast side of Seaside Island and is where Team Sonic's residences are located. When Amy was kidnapped by Lyric, Sonic the Hedgehog came to Seaside Coast to gather his allies to search for Amy.

Description[]

World Map Seaside Coast

Seaside Coast's World Map, from Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.

Seaside Coast, like its name states, is a tropical coast on Seaside Island with palm trees, sandy beaches, lush jungles, clean pools of water and rivers, Seaside Island-styled huts and fauna like sea turtles and crabs. It is also here the well-known residences of Team Sonic can be found.

In Seaside Beach, the level takes place on a sandy beach with a mountain range bordering the beach, where the mountains' feet mingle with the sand. There are also a few palm trees, bushes, large statues from the Ancients, clear rivers and thin waterfalls. A mild breeze is as well always shirring up some sand. Closer to the water, some small islands with palm trees can be spotted in the sea. Near the sea are also wooden scaffoldings and paths, and a few Seaside Island-styled huts. Fauna in both areas includes dolphins (or sharks) and red crabs.

In Seaside Jungle, the level takes place in the outer fringes of a jungle with limited foliage on the outer rim. Like Seaside Beach, Seaside Jungle is a mountainous region with rivers, waterfalls and some Ancient ruins. However, the ground here is covered in grass and moss, and tropical trees are everywhere. There are also several wooden paths and the lower paths lead through canyons. Deeper into the jungle, the jungle grows darker and denser, akin to a rainforest, and has bioluminescent insects flying around.

Story[]

Having learned that Lyric the Last Ancient had kidnapped Amy, Sonic traveled to Seaside Coast to gather his friends for a rescue mission. Enlisting Tails, the fox made a program that could clean the logs on Amy's broken AVA so they could find out where she had been. The duo then decided to recruit Sticks as well, despite fearing her reaction over having her BFF kidnapped.

When Tails (who was reluctantly elected to talk to Sticks) got through Sticks' paranoid ramblings, Sticks was left surprisingly excited over Amy's kidnaping. She then left to save Amy and make snake boots out of Lyric for her. However, her attempt at an impulse rescue was halted by Sonic, who convinced her to work together with him and Tails, after he helped get her boomerang out of a Buzzsaw. Tails then showed up with some cleaned logs that revealed that Amy and Knuckles had been at the Scrapyard, making the trio head for said location.

Gameplay[]

Seaside Coast's adventure levels, like the others, are divided into two parts (the foreground and background) that run parallel to each other, which can be traveled between with the Slingshot. Standard gimmicks here include Bounce Pads, Boost Pads, Enerbeam Swings and disappearing platforms. Hazardous obstacles in Seaside Coast include stationary rollers with spikes, red panels with blowtorches, and pools of water. Touching such obstacles will damage the player and return the characters to an earlier position. Seaside Coast also has collectibles scattered about which unlock extra content if collected and breakable obstacles that give extra Rings.

Like other adventure levels, Seaside Coast's have several character-specific gimmicks for the playable characters. These include dash blocks for Sonic, Air Vents and Sea Fox sections for Tails, Burrow spots for Knuckles, and Boomerang Switches for Sticks.

Overview[]

Seaside Beach[]

Seaside Beach is the area's first adventure level, which takes place on the seacoast. The foreground is set on the beach, while the background is set closer to the water. It is available from the start of the game. When first playing this level, only Sonic is playable. Being a tutorial level, it features a lot of Hints from Q-N-C that explains the game mechanics and elements. Disappearing platforms and dash blocks are common here. Other playable characters also have several paths of their own here, which usually lead to Crystal Shards. However, since only Sonic is playable here to begin with, the player has no choice but to return to this adventure level once they have gotten more avaliable playable characters in order to obtain all the collectibles.

At the start, keeping following the right paths until a Slingshot appears. Use it and follow the path on the right to another Slingshot just below a second floor. Use it and go down the first dash block on the right. Keeping going down the right paths from there to reach another dash block in the ground and go through it. Keep going right after that and a Slingshot will appear. Use it and keep taking the right paths on the new path to reach the next Slingshot. Use it, cross the gab on the left from there and move upward to reach the next Slingshot.

After using the Slingshot, the player can either keep following the path on the right, or take the Burrow segment found earlier for a shortcut, to reach the next Slingshot. From there, continue to the right to reach the goal. After clearing Seaside Beach, the player will also unlock Tails as a playable character.

Seaside Jungle[]

Seaside Jungle is the area's second adventure level, which takes place in the jungle. The foreground is set in the outer fringes of the jungle, while the background is set inside the denser parts. It becomes available after clearing Seaside Beach and obtaining one Sonic Badge. Around this adventure level are several possible alternative paths leading to the right or left that the player can take. The player will also occasionally have to traverse routes over waterfalls, or run through corkscrews carved into tree trunks. In addition to the dash blocks, there are also several paths where the player needs to use Tails' Hover ability. Much like in the case of Seaside Beach, only Sonic and Tails playable here to begin with, meaning the player has no choice but to return to this adventure level once they have gotten more avaliable playable characters in order to obtain all the collectibles.

At the start, the player can follow the left path, which splits in two later, or take the route to the right which requires Sticks. Either way, the routes will lead to a Slingshot. On the next path after the Slingshot, stick to the right-orientated path options to reach another Slingshot. Use it, and the player can again either go right or left. Several paths can be taken from there, though most of them eventually lead to the uppermost path (one lower path leads to a more obscure route). On this top path, go left until another Slingshot appears.

After using the Slingshot, go right and up with an Air Vent. The player can then either go right and upward or follow the path on the left to reach the upper path, which has the goal at the end.
