Inside the ship, however, there are more dash blocks and Air Vents, which are sometimes required to pass sections with flamethrowers. This adventure level also introduces the Rail gimmick. In addition, there are also various corkscrews and corridors arranged like labyrinths inside the aircraft.

Proceeding down the aforementioned path leads to the next Slingshot.

Scrapyard is the second area in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. It is a murky costal region on an island littered with mechanical constructs. On their quest to track down Amy, Sonic, Tails and Sticks came through this area where they recruited Knuckles for their mission.

Description

Scrapyard World Map

Scrapyard's World Map, from Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

Scrapyard is a murky rock island with purple soil and torches on the paths. Also, the majority of the vegetation found at first sight are dead trees. As its name states, the island is an abandoned junkyard with scrap parts from aircrafts littering it. It also hosts Knuckles' Hangout and a type of blue crabs.

The adventure level takes place at the beach. The paths are made of rock and it constantly rains. There are also a few plants here, like bush sprouts, hanging plants and moss on the rocks. At sea are giant (and often oblique) outcrops, and a few large and broken-down aircrafts. The insides of these aircrafts, which resemble the inside of an airship's envelope (framework include), are completely metallic, with some medium-tech parts. The aircrafts are otherwise in good condition, but are dark from being powered down. Light shine into them via portholes, some of which are fitted with canons.

Story

On their way to some Ancient ruins, Amy had Knuckles (who kept annoying Amy on their trip) to stand guard and later do some work at Scrapyard.

As Sonic, Tails and Sticks came to Scrapyard to find Knuckles for their search for Amy, who had been kidnaped by Lyric the Last Ancient, Sticks would confuse her teammates when Sonic tried praising their teamwork. When the trio finally found Knuckles, the echidna would ramble on about what he had been doing until Sonic bluntly brought the news about Amy. At the same time, Tails discovered where Amy had gone to from Scrapyard via her scrambled logs, making Team Sonic head for Shadow Canyons.

Gameplay

Scrapyard's adventure level, like the others, is divided into two parts (the foreground and background) that run parallel to each other, which can be traveled between with the Slingshot. Standard gimmicks here include Bounce Pads, Boost Pads, Enerbeam Swings, Rails and disappearing platforms. Hazardous obstacles in Scrapyard include pits with wooden spikes, red panels with blowtorches, and pools of water. Touching such obstacles will damage the player and return the characters to an earlier position. Scrapyard also has collectibles scattered about which unlock extra content if collected and breakable obstacles that give extra Rings.

Like other adventure levels, Scrapyard's has several character-specific gimmicks for the playable characters. These include dash blocks for Sonic, Air Vents and Sea Fox sections for Tails, Burrow spots for Knuckles, and Boomerang Switches for Sticks.

Overview

Scrapyard

Scrapyard is the area's only adventure level. The foreground is set on the murky beach, while the background takes place inside the remains of a giant aircraft. It becomes available after obtaining five Sonic Badges. This adventure level puts more emphasis on using the Guided Boomerang to destroy Boomerang Switches and disable spike traps blocking paths. Inside the ship, however, there are more dash blocks and Air Vents, which are sometimes required to pass sections with flamethrowers. This adventure level also introduces the Rail gimmick. In addition, there are also various corkscrews and corridors arranged like labyrinths inside the aircraft.

At the start, go down the path on the right until a Slingshot appears and use it. Go then right and two levels up. At that point, the player can either go left or right. The left path leads to a path with collectibles and across two Slingshots, but also leads back to the aforementioned split path. Going right at the split path lets the player proceed with the level. On this path, the player can go through the second-appearing dash block in the roof to reach another looping path with collectibles and two Slingshots. Proceeding down the aforementioned path leads to the next Slingshot.

In the new section, stick to the right-orientated path options until the next Slingshot is in sight. Use it and follow the next path on the right to reach the goal. After clearing Scrapyard, the player will also unlock Knuckles as a playable character.
