Scrapnik Island[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a makeshift island created on the debris of an old Death Egg model. It is home to the Scrapniks, guarded and protected by Mecha Knuckles.[2]
Description[]

An overhead view of Scrapnik Island, from Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island #1.
The majority of Scrapnik Island is salvaged from the remains of a previous Death Egg model. The Death Egg itself has a large section of its upper area split off and it rests on the other side of the large piece of land it lays on. The bottom of the Death Egg is badly damaged from its landing. The exterior of the station is worn down and rusted, with its metallic silver color fading to brown. There is one section that contains an old and destroyed Egg Carrier. The section split off from the main Death Egg harbors a more brown and golden mountainous area, filled with recycled machines and spare parts. There is no interior lighting, giving the Death Egg a very dark and hollow theme. The station, once being up to an Eggman Empire standard with large hallways, death traps, and containment rooms, is more worn down and rusted. In a few areas, mist can be found. Some of the technology within the Death Egg does still work, such as its security system, but most other things found there, like its Badnik factory, are no longer in operation.[1]
History[]
Past[]
After a previous altercation, the Death Egg crashed onto a large piece of land and was abandoned by Dr. Eggman. This Death Egg model in particular came to be the home of several forgotten Eggman robots that decided to take refuge and build a new civilization there with each other. No longer working for Eggman, the group called themselves the "Scrapniks" and named the new island "Scrapnik Island".[1]
The Death Egg's climate disruptor had begun to malfunction several times. E-117 Sigma, a member of the group, tried several times to fix it, but was not able to repair it fully. Furthermore, the attempts it made to decommission the item ended in failure.[1]
Scrapnik Island[]
The climate disruptor caused a large storm, which incidentally damaged the nearby Tornado, Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower's plane, and made them crash onto the island. Sonic injured his ankle and fell unconscious, which led the Scrapniks to offering their help to Tails. They dragged the hedgehog inside the station and supplied him with a metallic brace. Following this, Sonic was placed under observation.[1]
When Sonic had woken up and looked for Tails, a group of Scrapniks led by Mecha Sonic followed him. However, due to Sonic thinking that they were hostile, he fled from them. Sonic soon meets up with Tails and Sigma and is informed that the Scrapniks are actually friendly. Sigma apologized for the confusion and for the crashing of their plane. It showed Sonic and Tails around the island. Mecha Sonic's systems were nearly forcibly taken over and Mecha Knuckles observed the group.[1]
Trivia[]
- Scrapnik Island's role bears some resemblance to that of the Island of Misfit Badniks from the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.
- Curiously, an advertisement for the Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island graphic novel featured on the back cover of Sonic the Hedgehog #63 even refers to the Scrapnik Island as "The ultimate island of misfit Badniks".
