- Not to be confused with Scorpion or Scorpion Bot.
Scorpius is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is a scorpion-based Badnik created by Dr. Robotnik during the Veg-O-Fortress incident.
Appearance
Scorpius is a gigantic, orange-colored robotic scorpion. He is designed to possess Dr. Robotnik's face. He also has four gray, mechanical legs and a large gray tail that has a stinger at the end.
History
Sonic Spinball
In the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball, Scorpius was created by Dr. Robotnik when he built the Veg-O-Fortress. There, Scorpius rested in the Toxic Caves, the lowest point of the fortress. Eventually, he tried to battle Sonic the Hedgehog when the hedgehog infiltrated the Veg-O-Fortress, only to be destroyed.
Powers and abilities
Scorpius possesses a stinger than can excrete a green liquid.
Battle
Scorpius is the boss of the Toxic Caves in the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball and the first boss overall. He is battled with Sonic the Hedgehog.
Boss guide
During the battle, Scorpius will use his tail as a shield against Sonic. The player must jump into the gap between his tail and his body in order to attack him; if they succeed, they will bounce repeatedly within Scorpius and cause him significant damage unless they slip out of the gap. After a huge amount of hits, his tail will fall off, which will allow the player to attack Scorpius' body directly, with four hits being needed to destroy him.
The player can also damage Scorpius by hitting the four Drop Targets above the ceiling, which will cause a pile of rocks to fall down and damage Scorpius. The player has to bounce on Scorpius's tail in order to reach all four targets.
If the player falls to the bottom of Scorpius's boss room, they will be shot back up, meaning Sonic cannot leave the room until Scorpius is defeated. The room's shooter, however, disappears once Scorpius's tail is destroyed. As such, the player will fall all the way back to the beginning of the Toxic Caves should they fall into the wrong drain.
Trivia
- Scorpius' tail can get glitched, if the player passes over the robot at the same time when his tail's turning animation happens. This can cause Scorpius to get two stingers on the same tail.
- The screech Scorpius lets out when being damaged in this fight is the same as Dr. Robotnik's from the ending of Sonic Spinball.

Archie Comics
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Scorpius was a Classic Badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik when he built the Veg-O-Fortress. There, he rested in the fortress' Toxic Caves. Later, it, along with Rexxon, attacked Sonic when he infiltrated the fortress, but they were both easily defeated by Sonic.
After the Super Genesis Wave re-wrote history, Scorpius was used in a training simulator aboard the Sky Patrol in order to battle the Freedom Fighters. Despite its unnerving appearance, it was easily taken down by the heroes.
