The Scorpion Bot[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic Boom franchise. It is a mass-produced, scorpion-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman, and one of the doctor's newest classes of robotic foot soldiers.
Appearance

Based on the typical scorpion, the Scorpion Bots stand at twice the size of Sticks. They have a flat and smooth prosoma (head) and mesosoma (body) with red armor on top, a black underbelly, two small cyan eyes with slit-like pupils and two short yellow chelicerae. Their head armor in particular have two horn-like protrusions along their body. They also have six thin black legs with knife-like red claws and bendable tips, each connected to the body by a grey joint, and two thin pinchers with red and black claws. Their tails are grey and black with segmented red armor, yellow joints, and yellow and black fins. Finally, their stingers are yellow-mouthed tubes with cyan lights on the side.

The Scorpion Bots first appeared to attack the Unnamed Village after Eggman made a way under its defenses. Though they kept Team Sonic busy, the Scorpion Bots still got destroyed.[2] The Scorpion Bots later tried destroying the Fuzzy Puppy Warehouse to boost the value of Eggman's Fuzzy Puppies collection, but were stopped by Team Sonic.[3] Attempting another attack on Team Sonic, Eggman brought his Scorpion Bots with him. Unsurprisingly, they proved again to be not match against Team Sonic.[4] The Scorpion Bots later aided Eggman on an excavation search for Ancient mech suits. On Eggman's order though, the Scorpion Bots would attack Team Sonic when they showed up, only to get crushed by the heroes.[5] Not long after, more Scorpion Bots would fight Team Sonic again and lose, despite Knuckles being occupied with other jobs.[6]
When a Scorpion Bot came with Eggman to attack Team Sonic, its weapon got exploited by Sticks before Amy smashed the Scorpion Bot.[7] A few Scorpion Bots also came with Eggman when he joined T.W. Barker's Circus of Wonders. These robots fought Team Sonic when the group crossed the circus, but left with Eggman when he got sent into a sleepwalking trance.[8] After losing some Scorpion Bots in a fight with Team Sonic, Eggman brought more to a battle with Nominatus and his gang. There, the Scorpion Bots fought Nominatus' Caterpixels until Nominatus and his gang were stopped and captured.[9] Going to the beach, Eggman brought some Scorpion Bots with him. When one of them failed to keep Sonic from taking Eggman's spot, Eggman had them all fight Team Sonic in retaliation, but to no avail.[10]

When Eggman thought Team Sonic had stolen change from him, he sicced his Scorpion Bots on them. As the Badniks got crushed by the heroes, Mighton and Bolts intervened to avenge the Scorpion Bots.[11] Later the same day, the Scorpion Bots got infected by malware from Morristown, which made them attack the Village alongside Eggman's other infected robots. There, their onslaught was kept at bay by Team Sonic, whose members eventually split up, leaving the Scorpion Bots with less to deal with.[12]
Game appearances
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice
In Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, the Scorpion Bot made a cameo appearance amongst the sneak peaks at the concept artworks for the second season of Sonic Boom. Its concept artwork can be unlocked for one hundred Ragnium shards in Sonic's Shack.
Personality
Said to be bigger, meaner, and more dangerous than the classic Badniks,[13] the Scorpion Bots are silent, ruthless in battle, single-minded, without personalities, and unquestioningly dedicated to their leader's orders. They do not demonstrate very high intelligence however.[10]
Powers and abilities

The Scorpion Bots' stingers are equipped with flamethrowers which can produce flames powerful enough to take out a second-generation Badnik in one shot.[5] The Scorpion Bots can project their flames as either fairly fast fireballs or as a stream of fire.[2][5] As Eggman robots, they are also able to receive power remotely from Eggman's lair.[14]
Weaknesses
Despite their updated design, the Scorpion Bots are very fragile, just like the classic Badnik.[13] Also, being Eggman robots, the Scorpion Bots rely on Eggman's lair to provide them with power. As such, should the lair run out of power, then they will too.[14]
Trivia
- The Scorpion Bots were first revealed in the concept art featured in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.
- The Scorpion Bots were the first new Badniks revealed in the concept art from Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice to engage in battle during their debut episode in the Sonic Boom television series.
- According to Bill Freiberger, the Scorpion Bots were not based on a particular enemy from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games.[15]
