The Sandworm is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is a caterpillar-based Badnik model created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

The first Sandworm models look nearly identical to the Caterkiller, but with a blue, yellow and white color scheme. The latest model differs greatly from its predecessor: this Sandworm is larger, colored completely green and carries a black cannon on both sides of the head.

A Sandworm first appeared when ambushing Sonic on a trip to the Floating Island. Upon the Sandworm's second attempt to ambush him though, Sonic managed to defeat it.[1]

Later, a more intimidating Sandworm model was created by Dr. Robotnik during his occupation of Flickies' Island. This one tried to attack Tails and Willie Waddle in the Scorchio Zone. Willie, a comedian, told the Sandworm a joke, distracting it and allowing Tails to defeat it.[2]

Powers and abilities

Sandworms have been modified to function in a desert environment. They can quickly burrow through sand, and when they detect enemy on the surface it will burst out to attack.[1][2] Later models were equipped with powerful laser cannons.[2]
