San Francisco, officially called the City and County of San Francisco, is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series published by Paramount Pictures. It is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of California.
Located at the end of a peninsula overlooking the bay, the city of San Francisco is a densely populated glimmering urban center on California's northern coastline. Known for its steep rolling hills and foggy landscape, San Francisco has long been a cultural and tourist icon. The city boasts an array of architectural marvels like the famous Golden Gate Bridge and the Transamerica Pyramid, one of the city's tallest structures.
In the recent past, Tom Wachowski had dreamed for a while to move to San Francisco so he could join the local police department and make a difference in the big city rather than the rural town of Green Hills, Montana. Despite the Wachowski family having a long history policing the quaint community, Tom wanted more and applied to the SFPD, who after some time accepted his application. Tom's wife Maddie anticipating his success, celebrated the occasion with a cake (one of two, the other being an apology cake in case he didn't get the job) and told Tom she had already started searching for apartments to rent in the city.

With Tom and Maddie's exit from Green Hills almost complete, Maddie had decided to fly to San Francisco with their pet dog Ozzy and stay with her sister Rachel and niece Jojo, while Tom would finish packing up the house and finalize his resignation as Sheriff of Green Hills. While planning his cross country road trip to the city however, Tom heard a noise in his garage and assumed it to be raccoons rummaging through the garbage like he saw a couple of nights ago. He grabbed Maddie's tranquilizer gun with the intention of using it to scare off the vermin and kicked open the door to the garage acting like a member of the SFPD, only to be met with a three foot blue talking hedgehog who attempted to pass himself off as a cat by going "meow". The two both screamed in horror at the sight of each other causing Tom to panic and shoot the hedgehog in the leg with a tranq dart. The hedgehog exclaimed "Ow" before noting Tom's shirt witch read out "San Francisco" with a picture of a pyramid shaped skyscraper. Under the effects of the tranquilizer, the hedgehog accidentally dropped a gold ring to the ground witch opened a portal in the sky above the pyramid building. Stumbling forward, the hedgehog collapsed to the ground and dropped an entire bag of rings through the portal which landed on the roof of the building with the portal collapsing shortly after.
