SOS Backup[1] is a Story Quest in Sonic Frontiers. It is the first Quest on Ares Island, as well the third Quest overall. It's hosted by Knuckles. Its goal is to collect all 16 Kocos without getting crushed by the Towers which appear in this Quest.
SOS Backup takes place on Ares Island, near the previously drained oasis. The environment is surrounded by the ruined structures, as well dead vegetation covering the sand. Multiple Towers appear in this Quest, having the ability to crush the player.
Since Sonic Frontiers features a day-night cycle, some aspects of this Quest can be different from player to player.
Story[]
Some time after Knuckles was freed from Cyber Space, Sonic would encounter the Echidna helping a group of Koco Soldiers to link with other units. While Sonic would tell him that he is supposed to help him find the Chaos Emeralds, Knuckles informs him that he can do both.
The Kocos can be found underneath the Towers, which speed up if the number of Kocos carried by Sonic raises. While the majority of the Towers are similar to their Kronos Island counterpart, six Towers, which separate the location of Knuckles from the area the Quest takes place, are covered with red spikes. Boosting and Dodging are also disabled in this Quest.[1]
The player has three Lifes in this Quest. One life will be drained once a Tower crushes Sonic. If all three Lifes are consumed, the Quest will be automatically restarted.

SOS Backup takes place in a small region on Ares Island. In this Quest, the goal is to collect all 16 Kocos without getting crushed by the Towers. There is no time limit for this Quest.
In order to complete the Quest, the player has to collect all 16 Kocos from underneath the Towers. The speed of the Towers increases if the number of Kocos carried by the player raises. Usually, the Kocos are found either single, or within pairs of 2. Once all 16 Kocos have been retrieved, Sonic will be rewarded with the green Chaos Emerald.
Trivia[]
Despite being named so in the soundtrack, "Quest: SOS Backup" doesn't play during this Quest. "Quest: The Best Defense" plays instead.
