- This article is about the organization in the Sonic comics. For other uses, see Sonic X (disambiguation).
The Society for Observing and Neutralizing Inter-dimensional Creatures and Xenomorphs (or simply S.O.N.I.C.X.) is a group that appears in the Sonic X comic series published by Archie Comics. It is an evil secret organization dedicated to destroying Sonic and his friends or turning the public against them, as most of the members believe Sonic to be responsible for ruining their lives.
They are led by Captain Westwood (under the alias Organizer), who only appears to his comrades via video conferencing and is always obscured by shadows. It was Jerome Wise who thought up their expanded (and, in Sonic's opinion, ridiculous) name, having stayed up all night on the Internet in order to do so.
This organization did not appear in the Sonic X anime series, although many of the organization's members had small cameos in the anime.
Coincidentally, the acronym spells out the titular anime and comic series' name. Humorously, Sonic mocked them when he first met the group, believing them to be "[his] fan club".
Trivia[]
- All of the members except for Captain Westwood were present in the Sonic X anime. Hector Dragg made a brief appearance in the first episode as a member of the Speed Team, but he was not referred to by name or seen afterward.
- The term "Xenomorph" which means "Foreign Shape" may be also a reference to the alien creatures of the same name from the Alien franchise.
- Although it is not acknowledged, Li Yan's gang (Bruiser Boys) seem to also be part of the group, but whether as official members or just associates is unclear.
- It is also worth noticing that Yan is the only member whose revenge is not directly towards Sonic, but rather his friend Knuckles.
- The acronym for the group is a direct reference the title of the comic series (and by extension, the anime it’s based on), Sonic X.
