Rough is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. He is an anthropomorphic skunk and the brother of his partner, Tumble. An evil mercenary, he and Tumble took over a town, but were stopped by Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna.
Appearance
Rough is a medium-sized anthropomorphic skunk with navy and cream white fur. He has a tall, cream white mohawk that extends down to his back. He has a scruffy hairstyle along with long, cream white-striped tail that can extend over his own head. He bears a navy V-shaped patch on his cream white-furred chest. His muzzle has three spikes at each end and he bears fangs. Rough has red eyes with yellow sclera along with black outlines. For attire, he wears orange boots and gloves with red lining and light tan volar surfaces.
History
Past
Shortly before the end of the war between the Eggman Empire and the Resistance, Rough and Tumble saved a city by driving back Dr. Eggman's forces. Promising to help the town to help improve their defenses, Rough and Tumble were let inside the town, only to take its Wispons and Wisps for themselves and take the residents prisoners within their own town. With the residents unable to escape either, since Badniks were waiting outside the town, Rough and Tumble could do whatever they wanted.[2]
Fallout

While having the townspeople wait on them hand and foot for their own amusement and pleasure in their supply depot-turned-fortress, Rough and Tumble were confronted by Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna. After the disgruntled skunk duo introduced themselves to Sonic and Knuckles in their trademark manner, they engaged Sonic and Knuckles in battle, with Rough getting a hit on Knuckles with his Stink Bomber. However, Rough and Tumble soon found themselves outclassed by Sonic and Knuckles, so they got ready to resort to their Wispons. However, Sonic convinced the Wisps to defect from Rough and Tumble. With their Wispons deprived of their power sources, Rough and Tumble got defeated by the heroic duo. Afterward, the two of them were taken to prison, although not before warning Sonic and Knuckles that they would get out soon enough and have their revenge on them.[2]
Personality
Described as more of a bully than a mastermind,[1] Rough is ferocious, impish and cruel. He takes great pleasure in mocking the unfortunate and treating those he has terrorized into servitude like his personal slaves. He is also arrogant with an inflated sense of self, and does not take kindly to those opposing him. He is also very vengeful, as seen when he assured Sonic and Knuckles that they had made "lifelong enemies" of out of him and Tumble after they defeated them.[2]
Like Tumble, Rough has displayed a quirky sense of showmanship: for introducing themselves, the skunk brothers have prepared a routine where they tell about themselves with a rhyme while striking flashy poses. Rough is particularly proud and protective about their routine, as he got greatly offended when Sonic and Knuckles imitated it (in a mocking manner no less).[2]
Powers and abilities
Rough is a ferocious combatant. As a testament to his power, he and Tumble were able to single-handedly save a town from Eggman's forces during the war to take back the planet.[2]
Rough is very acrobatic: he can easily jump over a person charging at him and perform wall jumps. Befitting his species, he can also release an extremely potent stench strong enough to make one teary-eyed and dizzy. By combining this skill with a Spin Attack-based maneuver, Rough can use his Stink Bomber technique.[2]
Rough is also an adept user of Wispons. While his exact proficiency with a Wispon is unknown, he mainly uses one when fighting seriously.[2]
Weapons
During his career, Rough has made use of Wispons, although he seems to favor the Burst Wispon. He was later stripped of his Wispons when he got thrown in jail.[2]
