Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

Rosalina and Luma, from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Rosalina made her first appearance as a playable fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series together with Luma. In both versions of this game, Rosalina is a starter character, making her available from the beginning.

In this game, Rosalina is a tall and very lightweight character with a very slow falling speed. She also fights with a yellow Luma, who assists with Rosalina's moves and inputs, and is controlled by the player, even when separated from Rosalina. Rosalina's Luma also has its own HP and can be KO'd in combat. However, a different-colored Luma will eventually respawn to take its place. Together, Rosalina and Luma possess a highly defensive gameplay for their class and can be difficult to approach. Rosalina in particular can invalidate projectile attacks while Luma can shield Rosalina by taking hits in her place without suffering from status effects or Rosalina's damage percent being affected. Rosalina can also control how far away Luma can get from her using her standard special attack, and pull in objects and disable weapons with her Gravitational Pull move. When they work together, they can even put pressure on opponents and attack their foes when they are vulnerable. Their shared KO potential is also impressive due to Luma's power and the disjoined hitboxes for the range of Rosalina's moves. Their respective move sets are also fast and boast utility. Rosalina herself also has strong air mobility. In terms of weaknesses though, Rosalina has terrible endurance due to her height and weight making her easy to sent flying, and her air speed is only about average. Also, Rosalina loses many of her benefits and a few of her moves if Luma is taken out, as Rosalina herself possesses low attack power and short-ranged attacks. Also, while Luma is hard to KO, it can be rendered inactive when hit or pushed in certain ways. Also, Rosalina's recovery is rather linear and susceptible to attacks.

Each version of the game also comes with their own Trophies of Rosalina:

Rosalina and Luma in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rosalina made her second appearance as a playable fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series together with Luma. In this game, Rosalina must be unlocked by completing any one of following objectives:

  • Play VS. matches, with Rosalina & Luma being the 45th characters to be unlocked. Rosalina & Luma must then be defeated on Mario Galaxy.
  • Clear Classic Mode with Donkey Kong or anyone in his unlock tree, being the 3rd characters in his unlock tree after Pokémon Trainer. Rosalina & Luma must then be defeated on Mario Galaxy.
  • Have Rosalina & Luma join the player's party in World of Light.

In gameplay, Rosalina tall and floaty lightweight character. This time around, Rosalina is slightly heavier and faster than in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and her shield can now include Luma too. Luma has as well more HP than before and can return to battle quicker after being KO'd. In return, Luma will in this title begin to panic when Rosalina receives damage. This will in turn keep Luma from performing any acts. Rosalina's Final Smash has also been updated to the "Grand Star", but is otherwise no different from Rosalina's original Final Smash.

In the Adventure Mode of the game, "World of Light", Rosalina was one of the many fighters that stood up to the threat of Galeem and his army of Master Hands. When Galeem began capturing the fighters, Rosalina was defeated. Thus, the fighters (aside from Kirby, who had managed to escape) were held captive by Galeem so that he could clone them and create puppet fighters for evil spirits to control. Rosalina was later one of the many fighters that fell under Dharkon's control upon Galeem's first defeat. During the Adventure Mode, several puppet fighters of Rosalina are used for spirit battles. An evil version of Rosalina and Luma can be fought and defeated so that the true Rosalina and Luma can be awoken and join the fight to defeat Galeem and Dharkon.

In this game, Rosalina also appears as a Fighter Spirit and Support Spirit with the following characteristics:
