The Roller is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is an armadillo-based Badnik variant created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik and is among the first generation of Badniks Robotnik ever produced.

During Dr. Robotnik's early days, some Rollers tried helping their fellow Badniks keep Sonic the Hedgehog away from Robotnik's Neutrino Accelerator, but were swiftly beaten by Sonic.[1] A Roller and other Badniks in the Marble Zone would later torment Tufftee, who got himself caught among them trying to be a hero. As they decided to turn Tufftee into a Badnik with the Portable Badnik Processor though, Sonic arrived, destroying the Roller and freeing its organic battery.[2] Another time, Rollers would join an invasion of the Hidden Zone, only to be destroyed by Sonic.[3]

Deviating from the rest, a kindhearted Roller (named "Badnik") once befriended a young boy named Smokey. When he discovered it, Sonic allowed the Roller to survive when Smokey begged the hedgehog to let it go.[4]

Powers and abilities

The Rollers' hardened bodies can withstand attacks quite well and they are capable of curling into spheres.[4]
