For the version of these objects after the Super Genesis Wave, see Rocket-skates.

The rocket-skates[1] are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is the trademark rocket-propelled shoes worn by Shadow the Hedgehog. Their origins are unknown.

Description

Appearance

The rocket-skates are mainly white and smooth with black heel regions. Above the topline, they have what appears to be a red tongue and black topline collar. Around the rim of the soles, the rocket-skates have red strips of metal on the rear and front of the bottom, broken below the in-steps. On the bottom of each sole are an orange-yellow line of five small "jets" (three up front and two on the heel).

Features and abilities

The rocket-skates produce powerful rocket exhausts from their jets which are used to propel them forward. By using them to glide just above the surface, Shadow can propel himself at extreme speeds nearing those of Sonic the Hedgehog.[1] Because the rocket-skates propel him forward at a constant pace just above ground level, Shadow moves as if he is simply skating along a surface when running with his rocket-skates.[2] The rocket-skates' jets are controlled by Shadow at will and can produce high enough propulsion to assist his jumps and let him hover in midair. However, they have no flight capabilities.[3]
