Shadow using his Rocket-skates in Sonic Universe #87.

The rocket-skates produce powerful rocket exhausts from their jets which are used to propel them forward. By using them to glide just above the surface,[1] Shadow can propel himself at extreme speeds nearing those of Sonic the Hedgehog.[2] Because the rocket-skates propels him forward at a constant pace just above ground level, Shadow moves as if he is simply skating along a surface when running with his rocket-skates.[1]

The rocket-skates' jets are controlled by Shadow at will. By increasing their intensity, Shadow can produce fire from his rocket-skates' jets to attack opponents.[3] The rocket-skates can also produce high enough propulsion to let Shadow hover in midair, or descending.[4]
