The rock monster[2] is a character that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a Granifer Giganticus who briefly rampaged on Seaside Island after being awoken from its slumber.
Appearance[]
The rock monster is a colossal humanoid giant over ten times Sonic's size, whose body is composed entirely of orange boulders held together by an unseen force. He has a head with blue-glowing eyes and a face resembling a skull, round shoulders and upper arms with thick four-fingered forearms, a torso consisting of a round chest with spikes on the back and two segments for the lower torso, and thick legs with sharp knees and two-toed feet. He also has blue and purple-glowing veins across his torso and similarly colored joint-surfaces.
History[]
TV series[]
Season one[]
After sleeping for a millennium, the rock monster was accidentally awoken by Sonic and Knuckles. After a brief fight, the rock monster tried to get back to sleep despite being struck with insomnia, trashing through the Village in the process while failing to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. As the rock monster returned to the canyons, Team Sonic tried helping it fall sleep with a lullaby. After running away from Amy's singing voice though, the rock monster got soothed by Sticks' terrible singing. Because the rock monster blocked the road where it was resting though, Team Sonic lured it away. As Eggman then appeared to capture the rock monster with a trap, the rock monster would break free. The rock monster would then kidnap Sticks and hide with her while the rest of Team Sonic fought Eggman. After the heroes had left, the rock monster climbed a nearby rock pillar and had Sticks sing to it. Eventually though, the rock monster was found by Team Sonic, who rescued Sticks and lured it to Eggman's lair. There, the rock monster would get comfortable in Eggman's garden while it fell asleep to a recording of Sticks' lullaby on loop that Tails left behind.[1]
Personality[]
As a Granifer Giganticus, the rock monster is proud. It prefers peace and has a preference for sleeping, but it also operates on a simple mindset. Speaking only in roars and growls, it generally minds its own business in a docile manner, regardless of the destruction it causes around itself. When provoked or disturbed, however, it can be quite grouchy, hostile and even monstrous. It also appears to lack a sense of moral as it kidnapped Sticks and made her sing for itself despite the consequences.[1]
The rock monster has a peculiar taste in music; it hates melodious singing to the point where it will run away in agony, yet loves Sticks' singing voice which has been liken to "bagpipes in a wood chipper."[1]
Powers and abilities[]
The rock monster is a quite powerful monster; Dr. Eggman theorized that the rock monster alone was strong enough to destroy entire cities and help him subjugate the entire world.[1]
The rock monster has superhuman strength, capable of sending large boulders flying all the way from the countryside to the Village Center with a single kick, uprooting trees with one hand with ease, and even breaking free of the Bee Bots' Honeycomb Cage without trouble. The rock monster's composition also gives it great durability as it was not even affected by Knuckles' headbutts. It can also make roars strong enough to create powerful gusts of wind. As a Granifer Giganticus, the rock monster also has a lifespan that lasts over a thousand years.[1]
The rock monster has the ability to disassemble and reassemble its entire body at will. This skill lets it camouflage himself as a pile of inert boulders.[1]
