Sonic Triple Trouble
Grab a Jet Board and zip over soft snowdrifts. Or sink through the snow to the level below... if there is one. Gale-force winds blast from deep pits and carry you through underground mazes.
— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble US manual
Robotnik Winter Zone (ロボトニックウィンター Robotonikku~uintā?, lit. "Robotnik Winter") is the fourth Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble for the Sega Game Gear. As with other stages in this game, Robotnik Winter consists of two standard Acts followed by a shorter, third Act which contains the Zone's boss.
Robotnik Winter is, predictably, cold. Snow blankets the ground to such an extent in fact that snowboarding becomes an extremely quick way of blasting through the level. Snowdrifts occasionally conceal dark pits in the network of caves that course through the frozen ground. Breakable ice walls and powerful updrafts enable Sonic or Tails to proceed back above ground.
The early part of Act 3 requires the player to climb up the slopes of an icy hill, all the while being forced to dodge skating bomb-penguin Badniks descending from the summit. At the top, the player finally finds the source of this stream of robots: Giga Thomas "Pen", a giant, flying penguin head that spits the smaller Badniks at Sonic from the depths of its cavernous maw. Landing 8 hits will cause the boss' thrusters to fail, and he spirals away into the depths of a huge pit.
Chaos Emerald locations
- Act 1: Inside the cavern located beneath the snowdrifts in the Jet Board course. Leap across a series of moving platforms, ending on a vertically moving platform with an enemy. Go right to find the Chaos Emerald monitor.
- Act 2: To the left of the collapsing bridge before the first loop-de-loop. Ride a vertically moving platform up to a tunnel about halfway through the Act. Spin Dash into the tunnel, avoiding the retracting spikes, to reach the Chaos Emerald monitor.
In other media
- Despite being known as Dr. Eggman, this level was still named Robotnik Winter in Japan.
