The Ricky is a creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. They are a race of squirrel animals that live on Sonic's world. The Rickies are constantly captured by the Eggman Empire, who uses them as batteries for their various Badniks.

The typical Ricky resembles a brown-furred and round-shaped tree squirrel, although their anatomy is slightly humanoid. They have large heads with a small torso, arms with five-fingered hands, thick yet stubby legs with long feet and three toes each, a long and curled bushy tail each, two large black eyes, and round ears on top of their heads. Additionally, they have peach fur around their faces and on their bellies. Other features include cheek tufts, small brown/pink noses, and hair bangs on their foreheads.

Like actual animals, the Rickies can only speak in a language consisting of small chirp-sounding noises. Although recognized as animal life, Rickies are remarkably intelligent, being capable of understanding normal language and commands.[1]

Peaceful and non-hostile, Rickies are not known to fight. As such, they are constantly captured by the Eggman Empire. They also do not fear strangers, as a Ricky allowed Sonic to pet it after he freed it from a Badnik.[2]

Imprisonment and freedom

Following the emergence of Dr. Eggman, the Rickies have perpetually been kidnapped by the Eggman Empire to be used as power sources for the Badniks employed by the Eggman Empire's associates.

After the Eggman War, a group of Ricky-powered Antons and Hoverbys attacked the village where an amnesiac Dr. Eggman had settled down in. The Pockies inside these Badniks were soon after freed though after Sonic the Hedgehog and the Chaotix defeated the Badniks containing them. Sonic in particular would pet a Ricky after finishing the fight.[2]

An unfortunate Ricky was later used by Dr. Eggman and Dr. Starline as a test subject for the Metal Virus in the Final Egg. As a part of this test, the terrified Ricky was threatened by Dr. Eggman into picking up a flower infected with the Metal Virus and make it touch different samples. While the flower did not pass the Metal Virus onto the samples, it did pass it onto the Ricky, leaving the scared critter to slowly succumb to the virus.[1] After a while though, the Ricky had only been partially consumed by the Metal Virus. Attempting to accelerate the process, Eggman had a Zombot Pocky touch the Ricky repeatedly. This accelerated the virus's infection of the Ricky. Once the Ricky had been fully transmuted, it was left in its containment cell with the Zombot Pocky.[3]
