Red fruits[1] are obstacles that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an extraterrestrial flora cultivated only by the Black Arms.

The red fruit is a large red and purple-glowing spiky pod standing on a thin stem. Inside them glows a faint yellow/white light. The red plants are naturally poisonous,[2] making them dangerous to touch.

In Shadow the Hedgehog, red fruits were brought to earth by the Black Arms during their invasion of the planet. In gameplay, red fruit pods dot the landscape of various Stages, such as Westopolis and Prison Island. Touching them directly will damage the playable character, so the player must destroy them with weapons. Destroying red fruits will also fill the Hero Gauge.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the red fruits' early history are much like their game counterparts'. When he got stranded on Angel Island, Eclipse the Darkling grew a number of red fruits for him and the Dark Arms to live off.[3][4]
