The Red Volcano Zone boss is a vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was a spring-equipped capsule created by Dr. Robotnik. It was used by the doctor to combat Sonic and Knuckles.

Appearance[]
The Red Volcano Zone boss consists of a capsule similar to that of the Egg Mobile (albeit in a vertical position instead of the usual horizontal one). It has a protective glass cover, five piece of gray armor (three on the bottom of the capsule and two spherical pieces on the sides) and a piece of bust armor consisting of two yellow circles with a horizontal line across each of them. The capsule itself is also attached to a giant bolted red spring on the bottom and has a wrecking ball equipped. In terms of color scheme, it is mostly gray. It also has the usual Egg Mobile-styled yellow and black hazard stripes on the sides of its capsule, as well as on the upper part of the spring's broad side.
Powers and abilities[]
Thanks to the spring equipped to Robotnik's vehicle, the machine is capable of making very high jumps. It also has a large mace equipped as its main weapon.
History[]
Sonic Blast[]
In Sonic Blast, Dr. Robotnik used this vehicle to attack Sonic and Knuckles when the duo was passing through Red Volcano Zone. In spite of Robotnik's efforts though, his vehicle got destroyed by the two heroes in the end.
Battle[]
The Red Volcano Zone boss is the third boss of Sonic Blast. The player fights it at the end of Red Volcano Zone Act 3.
Boss guide[]
When the player arrives on the top of the mountains in Red Volcano Zone Act 3, the player has to jump onto a flying red and blue platform. This platform will then take the player upward until it reaches the battle arena. In this arena, the platform will cover the moves the player makes to prevent Sonic or Knuckles from falling off-screen. Upon arriving in the arena, Robotnik will bounce into view from the right side of the screen. Once he is at the maximum height for his bounce, he will throw his wrecking ball in a diagonal pattern (toward the lower-left part of the screen) and keep it outstretched that way until he falls off-screen again. Robotnik will then reappear from the left side of the arena, restarting the whole process over again (albeit from the opposite position each time) until he is defeated.
This boss needs to be hit eight times to be defeated. However, these hits must be dealt precisely into the protective glass cover of the Red Volcano Zone boss. Trying to hit this boss vehicle from any other spot will simply bounce the player back without dealing any damage.
After being defeated, the Red Volcano Zone boss will blow up before disappearing in a flash of white, clearing the Act.
