The Red Star Ring, also known as the Red Ring,[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a unique variant of the Power Rings produced by a Lake of Rings, but with Chaos energy added to its creation.[2]

Description[]

While Dr. Ellidy determined that the Red Star Rings possess roughly the same qualities as a regular Power Ring, they have the potential for much greater energy.[3] This was later demonstrated effectively when Nicole the Holo-Lynx used that energy to take on a state known as Overclocked Nicole.[2]

History[]

Past[]

The Red Star Rings were first discovered by Dr. Ellidy a few weeks after his Lake of Rings seemingly dried out.[3] Phage, a computer virus agent of Dr. Eggman, wanted Ellidy's research on them for the evil doctor.[4]

Shattered World Crisis[]

Act One[]

After Ellidy discovered his first Red Star Ring, Sally Acorn and Big the Cat went to get another one from the lake upon the doctor's request when they visited him.[3] Later, as Ellidy and the Freedom Fighters were attacked by Phage and her minions, Ellidy attached a Red Star Ring to Nicole's handheld form, transforming her into Overclocked Nicole and giving her the strength to defeat Phage.[2] After this, Ellidy gave the second Red Star Ring to Nicole as a keepsake.

Act Two[]

Much later, during an attack by both Phage and the Battle Bird Armada, Tails gave Nicole the Red Star Ring so that she could turn into Overclocked Nicole again and get rid of Phage. However, she sustained the form for too long, causing her handheld to overheat.[5]
