Red Killer Bee

The already tricky Killer Bee just got trickier: better, faster and stronger than before. — Description of the Red Killer Bees in Sonic Unleashed (PS3/Xbox 360).

Template:Character The Red Killer Bee (レッド・キラービー, Reddo Kirā Bī^?) is one of the types of Dark Gaia's Minions that appears in Sonic Unleashed. It is a stronger version of the Killer Bee. Faster, stronger, and smarter than the Killer Bees, these insectoid enemies are some of the most dangerous of Dark Gaia's Minions than can be encountered. They only appear during the game's nighttime stages.

Overview

The Red Killer Bees and the other members of Dark Gaia's Minions were created at the beginning of Sonic Unleashed. Following the premature awakening of the ancient entity Dark Gaia, the beast was unable to support itself and broke into countless fragments, with these fragments becoming the Red Killer Bees and the rest of Dark Gaia's Minions. They first appear in Arid Sands Night Act II: The City of Sand in the PS2/Wii version and in Dragon Road Night Act 1 in the PS3/Xbox 360 version.

The Red Killer Bees are one of the strongest and most dangerous of Dark Gaia's Minions, arguably only second to the mini-bosses and actual nighttime bosses. As an empowered version of the Killer Bees, the Red Killer Bees have faster movements and can deal more damage than their weaker counterparts. In fact, the Red Killer Bees are by far the fastest of Dark Gaia's Minions, and can inflict a great deal of damage, even for a Dark Gaia minion. They are, however, highly vulnerable to damage caused by thrown objects.

In the PS2/Wii version of Sonic Unleashed, the Red Killer Bees always appear in large numbers like the Killer Bees, but in the PS3/Xbox 360 version, they always either appear alone or in pairs.

Upon the reconstruction of Dark Gaia by Dr. Eggman, all of the Red Killer Bees along with the other Dark Gaia minions were returned to the beast, who was later defeated and sealed within the planet's core.

Description

Physical Appearance

Contrary to their name, the Red Killer Bees look more like wasps than bees. Like other empowered members of Dark Gaia's Minions, they bear a strong resemblance to their weaker counterpart (Killer Bees), but possess a different color scheme. They have long, thin horns and antennae on their foreheads, and their mouths look like beaks with tusks. Their thoraxes are spherical, with small spikes and four wings, and they have purple smoke emitting from their backs. Also, they have stingers on the ends of their abdomens that resemble arrowheads. Finally, they have red, pink, magenta and black skin with cyan body markings.

The size of the Red Killer Bees differs between the versions of Sonic Unleashed. On the PS3/Xbox 360 version, the Red Killer Bees are a little larger than Sonic the Werehog, but on the PS2/Wii version, they are only about half his size.

Powers and Abilities

The Red Killer Bees are able to move around by teleporting into an area in a puff of purple smoke. As a Dark Gaia minion, the Red Killer Bees can possess people by latching onto the deepest, darkest part of the heart, and generate despair, negative emotions or even erratic behavior that are completely opposite to the person's personality.

As an empowered version of the Killer Bees, the Red Killer Bees possesses strength, speed and intelligence above that of the regular Killer Bees. With the wings on their backs, the Red Killer Bees are capable of flight, and can move swiftly through mid-air in whatever direction they desire. In fact, the Red Killer Bees are capable of moving great distances in a matter of seconds, making them by far the fastest of Dark Gaia's Minions. The Red Killer Bees are also quite nimble and acrobatic while flying, being able to move up, down and side-to-side with quick and fluid movements.

Being based off bees, the Red Killer Bees also possess sharp stingers that they can use to pierce their opponents which pack a powerful punch.

Attack Patterns

The Red Killer Bees have the same attack patterns as the regular Killer Bees. When attacking the player, the Red Killer Bees will circle the player, signifying they are getting ready to attack. When attacking, the Red Killer Bees will strike using their large stingers. The Red Killer Bees can either attack from a distance by launching themselves into the player at unbelievable speeds, or deal a lightning fast barrage of stings to the player when up close.

The Red Killer Bees possesses wide movement capabilities that lets them dodge attacks with great ease, making them quite the nuisance and tricky to get a proper lock on. They can avoid the player's attacks by either quickly moving out of the player's attack range, or dodge by flying into the air when the player tries to attack them, for then to launch a quick and potent counterattack.
