Ray the Manta is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is a mobian manta ray and the leader of the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters.

Ray non-anthropomorphic manta ray, with a dark grey underside and a deep black topside. His underside is also dotted with black spots and his mouth resembles more of that of a whale, as it has baleen bristles. He also has a spine at the end of his tail, implying that he is a giant oceanic manta ray.

Ray is substantially larger than Tails, who stands at 56 marks.[1]

History[]

Southern Crossover[]

Ray helped to save Tails' life when he was knocked unconscious after Octobot tried to drown the fox. Ray accompanied Fluke and Tails on their way to Downunda. He also found someone that could repair Tails' submarine, the Sea Fox, after Octobot had damaged it.

Eel of Fortune[]

Ray led the attack against Eel Capone after Octobot fled the scene.[2][3][4]

The Island of Misfit Badniks[]

Over two years later, Ray led the offensive against the Island of Misfit Badniks, taking on Coconuts and Caterkiller.[5]

Personality[]

Ray is soft-spoken and jovial.[6]

Powers and abilities[]

As an aquatic mobian, Ray is capable of aquatic respiration, allowing him to breathe both on land and underwater. He is also a proficient swimmer who is capable of keeping up with Bottlenose Dolphin.[6]

Ray also has a razor-sharp spine at the tip of his tail, though it rarely crosses his mind to use it.[6]
