A green variant of Caterkiller.

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Rattlekiller,[1][2][note 1] also spelled as RattleKiller, is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, caterpillar-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman, and a variant of the Caterkiller.

Appearance[]

Rattlekillers are based on caterpillars, as well as the Caterkillers. Possessing a body consisting of multiple segments, they are colored green with yellow spikes on each of their segment parts and have cartoonish eyes with black pupils.

Overview[]

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Rattlekillers appear exclusively in Mirage Saloon Zone. In gameplay, this enemy can be found climbing up or down on the totem poles found throughout the Zone. When approached by the player, this Badnik will spring out from the totem pole and attack the playable character, similar to a Crawlton. A simple Spin Attack-related move to the head can defeat this Badnik however, releasing the Animal inside.

At the end of Sonic/Tails/Mighty/Ray's version of Mirage Saloon Zone Act 1 in Mania Mode, the Heavy Magician will transform a Rattlekiller into the Uber Caterkiller.

Powers and abilities[]

The Rattlekillers are excellent climbers with flexible bodies suited for slithering up and down thin vertical objects and launching long-ranged jabs. They also have quite the bite and spikes covering their bodies.

Trivia[]

Notes[]

  1. While not listed in any instruction manuals, the internal files in the PC release of Sonic Mania refers to this enemy as "RattleKiller" and "Rattlekiller".
