Rainbow Valley[2], also known as Botanic Base[note 1], is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a valley on Angel Island where a community of mobian chameleons live.

Description[]

Rainbow Valley is a tropical region that is home to a wealth of exotic and colorful foliage, as well as similar phenomenon, such as rainbows. In fact, to newcomers, the colors of the valley are so overwhelming that one would need tints for the eyes. The Rainbow Valley is also the home to a village of mobian chameleons, who live in tree huts. The village lies hidden within the valley, and some of the structures there even appear invisible to the naked eye.[2]

History[]

Past[]

At some point during Moonwatcher's tenure as Guardian, Rainbow Valley became a settlement for mobian chameleons, who had been introduced to the Floating Island alongside other mobian races by Moonwatcher.[3] The chameleons chose Rainbow Valley as their settlement because the colorful foliage of the area made it easier for them to blend into their surroundings, something they would do often as a naturally suspicious species.[2]

In order to watch the activities of the Brotherhood of Guardians on the island, members of the Shinobi Clan would go undercover as members of the chameleon community in Rainbow Valley, thereby allowing them to closely observe the brotherhood. One of them was Valdez, who later helped integrate his successor, Espio the Chameleon, into the Rainbow Valley community, passing him off as just another local.[4]

Dark Vengeance[]

Knuckles and Julie-Su eventually traveled to Rainbow Valley in order to look for Espio. Upon arriving in Espio's home though, which they discovered had been ravaged, Knuckles knew something was amiss.[2]

Hiding in Plain Sight[]

During a trip through Rainbow Valley, Espio and Julie-Su came across an injured Barney. After Julie-Su took Barney to Echidnaopolis for treatment, Espio called his fellow chameleons out and asked them about what had happened to Barney. The chameleons proceeded to show Espio an roboticized Valdez and some SWATbots, who proceeded to capture them all.[5][6]

Notes[]

  1. In Sonic Super Digest #2, a map of Angel Island is present which uses alternate names for many of the locations on it, likely created as placeholders due to legal issues regarding the original names.
