Pyramid Cave is an indoor, Egyptian ruin-themed level, with large murals and hieroglyphs found within. Since it is a base belonging to Dr. Eggman, the statues have had their heads replaced by ones with his face.
Story[]
After Tails finds the entrance to the pyramid base in the previous level, Sonic infiltrates it in hopes of finding the rocket launch pad. When he and his friends eventually find it, it is locked. This causes Knuckles to go out to search for the keys to unlock it.
Other level-specific objects include swing bars, torches and bonfires, chimneys with Eggman's face, large swinging boat pendulums, and windmills. There are also Boos here, which can be an obstruction to the player, along with E-1000s.
Overview[]
1st Mission: Infiltrate Eggman's Hidden Base![]
This section requires an expansion.
2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings![]
The fastest way to collect 100 Rings in this level is to use the Light Speed Dash whenever possible, along with stopping in two particular locations. Instead of swinging from the first swing bar, the player should drop down and grab the Item boxes below. Then, in the alcove where the player finds the second Chao Container, they should collect the 10 Rings Item box and then smash the nearby Wooden Container for twenty more.
3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao![]
The player should play the Mystic Melody at the second Ancient Ruin along the main path to make a Spring appear to their right. They must bounce up and run down the path until they come to an Hourglass. Flip it, then perform a Bounce Attack to reach the swing bar above. The player must then quickly swing from bar to bar to get across the gap before the door closes. The lost Chao can be found behind this door.
4th Mission: Reach the goal within 4 minutes 0 seconds![]
There are no shortcuts in this stage, so the player must master the level to reach the Goal Ring in under four minutes. They should take care to grind on every Rail, swing from every swing bar, and Light Speed Dash whenever possible.
Last Mission: Clear Hard mode![]
There are a handful of changes in the Hard Mode that make it substantially more difficult than before. Firstly, the Hourglass in front of the first E-1000 is moved to the right, and the Spring on the platform above it is gone. This forces the player to use a Bounce Attack to reach the tunnel above.
The placement of items on the player's way to fetch the second Gate Key has changed entirely. The Hourglass that opens its door is now atop a white ledge, so the player must drop the Gate Key in front of the door and go back to flip the hourglass, then pick up the Key again before running through.
Boom Boos have been added in large numbers throughout the level. They reward 300 points each on defeating their smallest form, so if aiming for an A rank, slowing down and defeating as many as you can will prove helpful. There are well over the 14,000 points required for an A rank available within the stage, even if you get 0 points from time bonus.
At the first swing bars, instead of swinging on them, the player should drop down below and look on that platform for the first Chao Container.
After the player uses the Bounce Attack to bounce up to the walls, they should go forward until reaching another Hourglass, then look in the alcove to the left to find the second Chao Container inside.
The player should play the Mystic Melody near the Ancient Ruin by the third Point Marker. Then, use the Light Speed Dash to cross the trail of Rings that appears, then catch a Pulley to reach a platform with another Ancient Ruin. They must play the Mystic Melody again and Light Speed Dash while holding up, and the player will land on a Rail. The third Chao Container can be found at the end of this Rail.
