Pumpkin Hill is the second stage for Knuckles, and is only playable as him in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. This is a treasure-hunting stage that uses the song "A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup". The time frame of this stage occurs in twilight.

Description
Pumpkin Hill also appears as a treasure-hunting race in the two-player mode of the game. Players can choose to play as Knuckles, Rouge, Tikal or Chaos 0.

The goal of this stage is to find three Master Emerald shards. This place is a level with a Halloween-like theme. Standby rockets allow the player to travel through the level with ease, though gliding is a simplistic method of navigation as well. There are many pumpkins and ghosts that appear with no warning to surprise the player. King Boom Boo's Boos make their first appearance in this level. G.U.N. robots also appear to attack the player throughout the level, ensuring that the player is not successful in their mission.

Gameplay
An interesting piece of trivia is that this is the only stage to not have a gold beetle at all in the GameCube and HD version. In the original Dreamcast version, it is found just off the ledge with the middle switch on ghost train mountain.

The goal of this stage is to find three Emerald Shards. Standby rockets allow the player to travel through the level with ease, though gliding is a simplistic method of navigation as well. G.U.N. robots appear to attack the player throughout the level, with the goal of ensuring that the player does not succeed at their mission.

  +
Overview
Pumpkin Hill has three major areas:

  +
1st Mission: Find 3 pieces of the Master Emerald!
  +
This mission is simple, as Knuckles has to find the Master Emerald shards around Pumpkin Hill. Knuckles will need the Shovel Claw, as an Emerald Shard will, most likely, be hidden underground. The shards can also be found on the three main mountains or on some of the large, hoodoo-like pumpkin structures around the perimeter of the stage.

  +
2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings!
*Pumpkin Mountain: An area dominated by various types of pumpkin and fire-breathing mechanized skulls. There is a Ancient Ruin at the summit that opens up a new area.

  +
This mission is very simple now that Knuckles has the Shovel Claw. The player can simply Dig underground to find buried Rings. Rings are also scattered around the three mountains, and the G.U.N. robots and Boos are limited here. Gliding through the Balloons will also help.
*Church Mountain: A mountain with a blue and lilac church at the summit. It has many tombstones in front of it, mimicking a cemetery. A dangerous Boo can be found there and it will follow the player in order to inflict damage.

*Ghost Train Mountain: A mountain with a turntable directing a Ghost Train. It leads to a Pumpkin Head Mountain with a trail of Ring Balloons. <span style="line-height:21px;">The area features many different trains on top of a hill with many rails and even a turn table. The hill also has a few doors and cages which on of them has Big the Cat in it for unknown reasons.</span>

  +
3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao!
Level Up Item
  +
As per usual, Knuckles will need the Mystic Melody in order to complete this mission. In fact, Knuckles only needs the Mystic Melody to find the lost Chao. Knuckles will need to take the rocket to Pumpkin Mountain and play the Mystic Melody at the Ancient Ruin there. Afterward, Knuckles can jump up to a portion of the mountain to reach the lost Chao.
Knuckles obtains an Level Up Item in this level; the Shovel Claw. This Level Up Item allows him to dig and is necessary for at least one Emerald Shard requires digging. Further levels also need this Level Up Item.

Missions
Find the three pieces of the Master Emerald
This mission is simple as Knuckles has to find the Master Emerald pieces around in Pumpkin Hill. Knuckles will need the Shovel Claw that is in plain sight as a Master Emerald piece will, most likely, be hidden underground. Master Emerald pieces can also be found on the three main mountains or on some of the large, hoodoo-like, pumpkin structures around the outside of the stage.

Collect 100 Rings
This mission is very simple now that Knuckles has the Shovel Claw. Knuckles can simply dig underground to find buried rings. Rings are also scattered around the three mountains and the G.U.N. robots and Boos are limited here. Flying through the ring balloons will also help as well.

  +
4th Mission: Collect the Emerald pieces in 3 minutes 0 seconds!
Find the lost Chao
  +
This mission is not particularly difficult as, despite its size, Pumpkin Hill is relatively easy to navigate through if one learns the layout. The player may need to use a Hint Box or two if they have trouble.

  +
Last Mission: Clear Hard mode!
As always, Knuckles will need the Mystic Melody in order to proceed through the mission. In fact, Knuckles will only need the Mystic Melody for this simple lost Chao mission. Knuckles will need to take the rocket to Pumpkin Mountain and play the Mystic Melody at the Anicent Shrine there. Afterwards, Knuckles can jump up to a portion of the mountain and get to the lost Chao.

  +
Hard mode requires two Level Up Items: the Sunglasses and Shovel Claw. The stage has many more Boos than normal, including the Boom Boos which float around the rockets and tombstones. The Emerald Shards in this mode are located in the following fixed places:
  +
#On Ghost Train Mountain, the player should reach the turntable. From there, they must Climb straight down the side of the mountain in the direction the back end of the train is facing. When the player comes to the chimney pipe, they should turn the camera. From there, the first Emerald Shard can be seen floating above a mechanism swinging iron balls. The player should Glide over and grab it.
  +
# The next Emerald Shard is located near the bottom of Pumpkin Mountain. On the side of the mountain that faces away from the center of the stage, there is a platform where the player can find two skulls breathing fire. The Emerald Shard can be found in the wall where the skulls' flames meet. The player must wait for the flames to stop, then Dig.
  +
#To find the last Emerald Shard, the player should head to Church Mountain. They must climb up to the tip of the steeple and try to balance on top of it by just barely tapping the Control Stick. Once at the top, equip the Sunglasses, and a Spring will appear below Knuckles and launch him into the air. At the height of the Spring's launch, the player must Glide forward to grab the Emerald Shard.

  +
Level Up Item
Collect the Emerald pieces in 3 minutes
  +
The Level Up Item in this level is the Shovel Claw. This allows Knuckles to Dig and is necessary to complete the game, for at least one Emerald Shard requires Digging.

  +
Chao Container locations
This one isn't too difficult as, despite it's size, Pumpkin Hill is pretty easy to navigate through if one learns the layout. Knuckles may need to use a hint computer or two if he has trouble finding some Emerald pieces.

  +
#Halfway up Pumpkin Mountain, the first Chao Container can be found stacked together with a Wooden Container on a ledge that sits at the same height as the local ghost train.
  +
#On Ghost Train Mountain, the second Chao Container can be found on a platform behind the ghost pumpkin pillar. This platform is located at the end of the Balloon trail, which can be seen from the top of the mountain.
  +
#The player must Glide from the top of the column where the second Chao Container is found, then head toward the center of the stage. Here, they should see a platform about halfway up, almost directly in the center, where the final Chao Container is.

Complete Hard Mode
Hard mode requires two Level Up Items: Sunglasses and Shovel Claws. The level has many more Boos including the Boom Boos, larger versions of the regular type, floating around the rockets and tombstones. The shards are in fixed places, the first requiring skill and patience, the second digging and third the Sunglasses, patience, timing and more skill.

Pumpkin Hill (パンプキンヒル Panpukin Hiru?) is the sixth stage of the Hero story in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and is playable as Knuckles the Echidna.

Description

Pumpkin Hill is a level with a Halloween-theme and it occurs during twilight. There are many pumpkins and Boos that appear with no warning to surprise the player.

Pumpkin Hill has three mountains:

 • Pumpkin: An area dominated by various types of pumpkin and fire-breathing mechanized skulls. There is an Ancient Ruin at the summit that opens up a new area.
 • Church: A mountain with a blue and lilac church at the summit. It has many tombstones in front of it, mimicking a cemetery. A dangerous Boo can be found here and it will follow the player in order to inflict damage.
 • Ghost Train: A mountain with a turntable directing a Ghost Train. It leads to a Pumpkin Head Mountain with a trail of Balloons. The area features many different trains on top of a hill with many rails and even a turntable. The hill also has a few doors and cages, one of which has Big the Cat in it for unknown reasons.

Story

Gameplay

The goal of this stage is to find three Emerald Shards. Standby rockets allow the player to travel through the level with ease, though gliding is a simplistic method of navigation as well. G.U.N. robots appear to attack the player throughout the level, with the goal of ensuring that the player does not succeed at their mission.

Overview

1st Mission: Find 3 pieces of the Master Emerald!

2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings!

This mission is very simple now that Knuckles has the Shovel Claw. The player can simply Dig underground to find buried Rings. Rings are also scattered around the three mountains, and the G.U.N. robots and Boos are limited here. Gliding through the Balloons will also help.

3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao!

4th Mission: Collect the Emerald pieces in 3 minutes 0 seconds!

This mission is not particularly difficult as, despite its size, Pumpkin Hill is relatively easy to navigate through if one learns the layout. The player may need to use a Hint Box or two if they have trouble.

Last Mission: Clear Hard mode!

Hard mode requires two Level Up Items: the Sunglasses and Shovel Claw. The stage has many more Boos than normal, including the Boom Boos which float around the rockets and tombstones. The Emerald Shards in this mode are located in the following fixed places:

 1. On Ghost Train Mountain, the player should reach the turntable. From there, they must Climb straight down the side of the mountain in the direction the back end of the train is facing. When the player comes to the chimney pipe, they should turn the camera. From there, the first Emerald Shard can be seen floating above a mechanism swinging iron balls. The player should Glide over and grab it.
 2. The next Emerald Shard is located near the bottom of Pumpkin Mountain. On the side of the mountain that faces away from the center of the stage, there is a platform where the player can find two skulls breathing fire. The Emerald Shard can be found in the wall where the skulls' flames meet. The player must wait for the flames to stop, then Dig.
 3. To find the last Emerald Shard, the player should head to Church Mountain.

Level Up Item

The Level Up Item in this level is the Shovel Claw. This allows Knuckles to Dig and is necessary to complete the game, for at least one Emerald Shard requires Digging.

Chao Container locations

 1. Halfway up Pumpkin Mountain, the first Chao Container can be found stacked together with a Wooden Container on a ledge that sits at the same height as the local ghost train.
 2. On Ghost Train Mountain, the second Chao Container can be found on a platform behind the ghost pumpkin pillar. This platform is located at the end of the Balloon trail, which can be seen from the top of the mountain.
 3. The player must Glide from the top of the column where the second Chao Container is found, then head toward the center of the stage. Here, they should see a platform about halfway up, almost directly in the center, where the final Chao Container is.
