The Prism Shard is an object that appears in the Sonic Prime television series. They are the fragmented pieces of the Paradox Prism.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Prism Shards are the physical remnants of the Paradox Prism, each varying in color.
Features and abilities[]
The Prism Shards are the fragmented pieces of the Paradox Prism, which was considered very powerful. While their abilities were unknown for a time, other than powering a city, they were capable of sending Sonic the Hedgehog through the Shatterverse by touching them. The Chaos Council and Tails Nine, through the use of special technology Nine dubbed 'Shatterdrives', are also able to use this power through the use of their technology and travel into another Shatterspace. Holding more than one Shard increases the power one wields, and the total power output of the Shards.
When three Shards (specifically the red, green and blue Shards) were held by the Chaos Council, they managed to use the Shards' power to improve or create their machines, make massive portals to other Shatterspaces, and cause buildings to arise in No Place and Boscage Maze in an attempt to conquer them.
Each Prism Shard appears to have abilities unique to them:
- The red Prism Shard, called the Energy Crystal by the locals, was located in New Yoke City. It can power robots and machinery.
- The green Prism Shard, called the Heart of the Jungle by the locals, was located in Boscage Maze. It is capable of creating and promoting vegetation growth.
- The blue Prism Shard, called the Devil's Lighthouse by the locals, was located in No Place. It is capable of creating lightning, whirlwinds, and storms.
- The yellow Prism Shard was located in Ghost Hill. It was located in the exact same place the Paradox Prism was right before it was shattered. It serves as Ghost Hill's core to create ghost-like replicas of Sonic's friends that would repeat the same thing in loop.
- The purple Prism Shard was located in the Grim. It was used to transform and shape any lifeless object into something else based on the person's intentions, for example, turning rocks into plants and fruits.
The energy that fuels the Prism Shards is referred to as Prism Energy. Misuse of the Shards can cause potential damage to reality just like the Paradox Prism. The Chaos Council used three Shards to create their portals into other worlds and keeping them open slowly caused immense damage that Nine described as a universal threat.
History[]
New Yoke City[]
Following the shattering of the Paradox Prism caused by Sonic, the Shards were sent into different Shatterspaces within the Shatterverse. The first one is the red Prism Shard located in New Yoke City, which was used by the Chaos Council as a battery in order to conquer and mechanize the entire realm. As Sonic's energy is akin to it, he caused a blackout throughout the Shatterspace, but also the Void. Shadow, who was watching Sonic, was sent to the opposite side of the Void where he discovered Ghost Hill. He entered the Shatterspace and investigated it to discover the yellow Prism Shard. He elaborated a plan to look for the other Shards along with Sonic, but couldn't pass through the Gateways. Meanwhile, in New Yoke City, the lights were back.
Sonic and his allies traveled to shut down the Chaos Council once and for all by looking for the red Prism Shard located at the lowest floor. As Nine ordered Sonic to take it, the hedgehog was aspired in it and taken to the Boscage Maze. Nine then took the red Prism Shard and escaped Yoke HQ with it.
Unwelcome to the Jungle[]
In order to find the green Shard, Sonic sided with Prim. He found out that the jungle "monster" is a version of Amy Rose, named "Thorn Rose", who was guarding the green Prism Shard. He negotiated the Shard in exchange of him leaving the jungle forever, but needed her help for it. Thorn Rose agreed and led Sonic to a giant palm tree called the Great Green. Sonic then located the green Prism Shard underneath and dug it out using his Boscage Blades as well as a leaf to carry the Shard. As he found the green Prism Shard, Thorn Rose forced him to give it to her. She then attached it to her wooden hammer and started to make the jungle bigger. Sonic managed to stop her by breaking her hammer and bringing the light back. Thanks to Birdie, Sonic found the green Prism Shard, but was distracted by Shadow's spectre. He fell right onto the green Prism Shard. Following Sonic's disappearance, Thorn Rose found her hammer, but with no sign of Sonic. She detached the Shard and gave it to Birdie.
The Grim[]
Sonic was taken back to New Yoke City, though the red Prism Shard was missing. Rebel and Knucks told Sonic that Nine was the one who took the Prism Shard and left the tower with it, but was nowhere to be found. In fact, Nine returned to his workshop and spent the next days studying the red Prism Shard's powers. He even built a spaceship he named the "Shattercraft" to exploit the red Prism Shard's powers. Meanwhile, the Chaos Council sent Eggforcers to look for the red Prism Shard. Nine was obligated to leave his workshop to escape the Eggforcers. He landed on a hidden, yet mysterious uninhabited Shatterspace he named "The Grim". He stayed in there in order to create his own reality thanks to the purple Prism Shard he found. Nine used the purple Prism Shard to built his own laboratory and configured his robotic tails to make use of the Prism Shards' powers. That's how he started changing rocks into palm trees and coconuts, and started his project. He also placed the red Shard beside it in a Shatterdrive he built, strengthening the powers of both Shards.
Nine used the red Prism Shard to use the Shatterdrive and go back to New Yoke City to take Sonic. He used it again to open a portal to New Yoke City, so Sonic could go back helping the Resistance, but opened another one to go back as well. He fought Mr. Dr. Eggman with his spaceship, but was distracted by Sonic's conditions. Nine was captured and forced to configure the Chaos Council's Mothership like his spaceship to travel across the Shatterverse and make use of the red Prism Shard's powers.
Pirate Storm[]
The fourth Prism Shard is the blue one, located in No Place. It caused Dread to lose his boat, and his previous crew. While Dread didn't want to talk about it, Sonic insisted to. Black Rose then told Sonic Dread's story with the "Devil's Lighthouse" that caused him to lose his pride. Unfortunately, Rusty Rose's arrival in No Place forced Dread to go back to the Devil's Lighthouse, but not before a drone scanned Sonic's Regulators, allowing them to track the positions of the Shards. A battle occurred on Rusty Rose's Kraken, while Dread was flying to the blue Prism Shard. He climbed to the top and finally got his hands on his "beauty". He fought three Eggforcers while trying to protect the Shard, but fell. Sonic caught him up, but the Shard fell on his face, causing him to exit the Shatterspace. This is when Shadow finally stopped Sonic from going to another Shatterspace and took him to Ghost Hill.
Ghost Hill[]
Inside Ghost Hill, Sonic was greeted by ghost-like replicas of his lost comrades. Shadow then took Sonic to the Temple Mountain to show the yellow Prism Shard, which was surrounded by the ghostly outline of the rest of the Paradox Prism, which Shadow dubbed as the "Ghost Prism". He told Sonic about his plan to get the Prism Shards back and reform the Paradox Prism. Meanwhile, he couldn't pass through the Gateways, even with the Regulators. It was up to Sonic to find the Prism Shards.
Finding the Shards[]
Sonic then followed the Chaos Council's Mothership to the Boscage Maze and ran to find the green Prism Shard he fell onto. Unfortunately, the Chaos Council entered the Shatterspace as well to find the green Prism Shard. One of the robots located the Shard inside Birdie, so Dr. Don't and Dr. Babble would chase her. In order to save the jungle, Sonic negotiated with Thorn for the Shard again. The latter agreed to give him the Shard, so he could leave with him. Birdie vomited the Shard and Sonic took it in disgust. He used the Shard to grow sharp trees and save the Boscage Gang. Unfortunately, one of the Eggforcers forced him to let the Shard go, so Dr. Babble could take it.
Sonic entered No Place a while after Dread took the blue Prism Shard, who then used it to fight the Eggforcers before losing it to them. Sonic fought Dr. Deep and Dr. Done-It to take it back by forcing them to destroy their Yolkomotive, so they couldn't follow him. Meanwhile, Dread turned on him to take the Shard again. Instead of fighting him, Sonic tried to flee with him by running above the water, but he couldn't get up to the full speed he needed to exit No Place. Rusty Rose locked onto his position to not losing sight. Sonic was brought back on the Kraken and Dread took the Prism Shard. However, Dread wanted to kill Sonic. Before they could fight, Dr. Deep and some Eggforcers appear to take it. Dread left the Kraken with the Shard, leaving his crew to the Eggforcers. Sonic went after him, but Dr. Deep was also pursuing them. Dread used the Shard to shoot on Dr. Deep, so he could distract Sonic and leave. Sonic took the Shard back and started rushing to the Void, but the Chaos Council's Mothership appeared. M. Dr. Eggman and Dr. Done-It tried to force Sonic to give the Shard, but the hedgehog refused. He threw the Shard to distract the Chaos Council, so Dread's crew would break free. Dr. Deep finally took the Shard and returned to the Mothership with it.
Back to New Yoke City with the three Shards, the Chaos Council was thinking about building its empire. To defeat Sonic once and for all, Dr. Deep was thinking about "recycling" the broken Eggforcers by using the combined powers of the three Shards, and Dr. Done-It made the suggestion to create taller versions of them. The three Shards were used again to recycle more Eggforcers, but all of the Jumbo Eggforcers were destroyed. M. Dr. Eggman used them to create Chaos Sonic. While the robot was distracting Sonic and the Resistance, the Chaos Council used the three Shards to open portals. As everything went as they plan, the Shatterverse started shaking. This also started to decay the Shatterverse, albeit, very slowly. Nine freed himself to stop the apocalypse and take the Shards to The Grim. He used the Shards to help Sonic defeating Chaos Sonic before putting them in a makeshift Shard Case. Meanwhile, Dr. Babble found Chaos Sonic's corpse, so the Chaos Council went to Yoke HQ to stop Sonic and Nine from leaving the Shatterspace with the Shards.
Return to Ghost Hill[]
Nine used the blue Prism Shard to power the Shattercraft to Ghost Hill instead of the Grim, as per Sonic's suggestion, but had to give up on the damaged Shatterdrive to escape New Yoke City with Sonic and the Shards. Sonic was running throughout the city, looking for an exit, but didn't find any. So, he had to convince Nine to enter one of the Portals above them. Though Nine was reluctant, he agreed with Sonic to try them. Nine and Sonic entered No Place, but Dr. Don't and Dr. Babble followed them there. As Sonic couldn't run at full speed on water, Nine helped him to escape the Eggforcers behind them. Sonic then asked Batten to shoot at Dr. Don't and Dr. Babble, so they would leave the Shatterspace as well. Batten and Catfish accepted his request. Sonic and Nine then went back to New Yoke City, but Dread was waiting for them. Knucks and Rebel appear to help Sonic and Nine to escape New Yoke City with the Shards. Sonic and Nine entered the Boscage Maze, where they encountered the Boscage Gang along with Thorn Rose and Birdie. Meanwhile, the Shards started becoming stronger due to their close proximity, which kept causing reality quakes. Sonic then asked Thorn Rose to buy them time, so they could leave the jungle. Thorn Rose accepted his request. Sonic then ran at full speed and go to the Void. Shadow then appeared to help Sonic and Nine taking the Shards to Ghost Hill.
Reforming the Prism[]
Before assembling the Paradox Prism, Nine convinced Sonic and Shadow to leave it to him, but needed time. Sonic and Shadow agreed, so they left the cave. Nine then managed to stabilize the three Shards and started assembling the Paradox Prism. He put the blue one correctly, but not the red one. This mistake allowed the Chaos Council to locate the cave. As Nine put the red one in its proper place, the Eggforcers entered the cave to take all of the Prism Shards. Nine fought them, but not for a long time. He sent a distress call to Sonic to help him and the hedgehog came to his aid. In order to defeat the Chaos Council equally, Sonic requested Nine to give him some more Prism Energy. After some hesitation, Nine accepted and gave Sonic some Prism Energy. When he returned, the Prismatic Titan was already at the entrance to take all of the Prism Shards. Nine extracted Prism Energy from the green and yellow Shards and gave it to Sonic to defeat the Prismatic Titan.
While the Chaos Council was down, Green Hill was not restored. Sonic tried to figure it out, but Nine revealed that one last Prism Shard was missing (purple), but left it in The Grim on purpose to know how to reform the Paradox Prism. He forced Sonic to let him take the four Prism Shards by destroying the blueprint with lasers. Nine then used a Prism Shard to open a portal to The Grim and left Ghost Hill with all of them.
The Missing Energy[]
Nine returned to the Grim with the four Shards and placed them in another Shatterdrive to reform the Paradox Prism with the fifth one he has. He eventually reformed it and started transforming The Grim into "his" paradise. Unfortunately, The Grim and the other Shatterspaces started decaying due to the Paradox Prism being unstable. It is revealed that Sonic's energy is what will allow the Paradox Prism to be fully stable, so Nine used the Paradox Prism to create robots with the likeness of Sonic and his friends to capture him and take away his energy.
