The Prime Zone is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is the main Zone which Sonic is from, and the home planet from which he hails.
Description[]
The Prime Zone is the totality of all of space and time and their contents within Sonic the Hedgehog's home reality. It houses a vast space, filled with an incalculable number of celestial bodies that include stars, moons, comets, and planets of all sizes. As such, this dimension is home to a plethora of species that include mobians, mobini, Wisps, Chao, humans, Black Arms, and Zeti; as well as supernatural creatures, such as Dark Gaia Creatures, ghosts, alien abominations, and even deities.
The Prime Zone is just one of countless universes, known as "Zones", throughout the multiverse,[1] all of which exist each other as parallel universes. What facilitates the existence of this and the other Zones is the "Power of the Stars" that is found at the Sol Zone,[2] an universe that has an inextricable link with the Prime Zone.[3] It is possible to reach alternate dimensions within the multiverse from the Prime Zone through various means, such as through the Chaos and Sol Emeralds, but it is incredibly difficult to reach worlds from other multiverses entirely, and it has only been thanks to the extensive efforts of Drs. Eggman and Wily that it is possible.[4][5][6]
History[]
Past[]
In the past, countless conflicts occurred on Sonic's World, particularly involving the Chaos Emeralds. Additionally, as time went on, various alien creatures would make several visits to the planet. In particular, the ancestors of the Babylon Rogues, the Babylonians, were aliens who got stranded on Sonic's World some thousands of years ago following a trip around the Prime Zone.[7] Other visitors included the Black Arms, who would watch over the planet every few years.[8]
Fifty years ago, the Black Arms' leader, Black Doom, made contact with human genius Professor Gerald Robotnik, who needed his help to create an immortal lifeform onboard the Space Colony ARK. After the project was completed and resulted in the birth of Shadow the Hedgehog, however, G.U.N. forces raided the ARK and killed anyone who was involved in the project, except Gerald. Shadow was put to stasis, while the professor was executed.[9][8]
In recent times, Gerald's grandson, Dr. Eggman, would begin to plan to conquer all of Sonic's World. With help from Julian Snively and Walter Naugus, he was able to take over the Kingdom of Acorn by exiling its ruler, Nigel Acorn, to the Special Zone alongside Naugus.[10][11][12][13] One of Eggman's operations following this campaign allegedly involved building a massive amusement park in space called "Egg Planet Park" to harvest the energy of the Wisps by linking their home planets to this park. However, the project would take years to complete.[14][15] Meanwhile, his other plots were foiled by Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends, who would come to form the Freedom Fighters, free the Kingdom of Acorn from his rule, and become his eternal nemeses.
Over time, countless conflicts between the Freedom Fighters and Eggman would put Sonic's World to risk, though later crises would also threaten the entire Prime Zone's existence. Some time ago, the doctor tried to get the Time Stones on Little Planet to control time itself, though he was stopped by Sonic.[16][17] Most noticeably though, when Eggman teamed up with his descendant from the future, Eggman Nega, to build an interdimensional Eggman Land, the Prime Zone would slowly start to enter a collision cause with the Sol Zone that would cause the destruction of both Zones. Fortunately, this catastrophe was prevented by the combined efforts of the Freedom Fighters and Blaze the Cat.[3] In another incident, Eggman would put to use his new technology, the Genesis Waves, and split Sonic's World into multiple pocket dimensions, but his plan was thwarted by Sonic and his friends.[18] Another crisis saw the Prime Zone and the entirety of the multiverse almost being consumed by the sun god Solaris. Fortunately however, Sonic was able to undo this disaster by traveling back in time and erasing Solaris from existence.[19]
Recently, Eggman was able to finish Egg Planet Park and use it to harness the Wisps' energy. With it, he built a cannon that could control people's minds on a global scale, intending to use it on Sonic's World. However, interference from Sonic caused the cannon to instead create a massive void of the Wisps' energy that began to destroy the park. Fortunately, the Wisps stopped the void from causing further damages, while Eggman was left stranded in space.[14][15] There, he discovered the Time Eater, a being who could manipulate spacetime, and planned to use him to undo his previous defeats. With help from a past version of himself, he began pulling various locations and inhabitants from the Prime Zone into a white void, slowly tearing space apart. However, this plot soon came to an end when Sonic and his own past self defeated the Time Eater, undoing the damage the Eggmen had caused.[20][21][17]
