Not to be confused with Power Boost (Knuckles' Chaotix).

Power Boost[1] (パワーブースト[2] Pawā Būsuto?) is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, debuting in Sonic Frontiers.

Description[]

When Sonic collects the maximum number of Rings he can carry, he charges up with blue energy. This allows him to run even faster, via Boost, than his normal top speed for as long as he doesn't lose Rings.

If Sonic upgrades his speed stats to the maximum of level 99+, the Power Boost will always be active when the player is using the Boost.

Initially, it was only used in Open Zone areas. As of version 1.2.0, however, the Power Boost can be unlocked for Cyber Space levels if the player completes everything in Cyber Space Challenge with an S Rank.

As of version 1.3.0, it is one of the time-saving tricks that can appear at the top-right of the clear time, with it being blue. It was an asterik mark in 1.3.0, but was changed into a triangle in 1.4.0.

Variants[]

Card Spin Boost[]

Main article: Card Spin Boost

The Card Spin Boost is Amy's version of the Power Boost. Amy will hop on her Piko Piko Hammer as her Fortune Cards form a ring around her, and she will ride it like a motorcycle or a witch's broom, greatly increasing her speed and allowing her to damage enemies on contact.

Drill Spin Boost[]

Main article: Drill Spin Boost

The Drill Spin Boost is Knuckles' version of the Power Boost. Knuckles will spin around rapidly like a drill, greatly increasing his speed and allowing him to damage enemies on contact.

Cyclone Boost[]

Main article: Cyclone Boost

The Cyclone Boost is Tails' version of the Power Boost. Tails will hop into the Cyclone and fly away at great speeds, allowing him to maneuver in the air and damage enemies on contact.

Trivia[]

  • The cutscene triggered when Sonic activates the Power Boost is a reference to the Sonic the Hedgehog film,[3] when Sonic harnesses his chaos energy during the showdown against Dr. Robotnik. Additionally, the cutscene contains blue lightning and Sonic having blue eyes, just like Movie Sonic when he uses his chaos energy. Interestingly, the way how the camera pans is also similar to the one used in the movie.
  • This is one of the few abilities that Super Sonic cannot attain due to the Rings decreasing while playing as him.
  • In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic references the Power Boost.
