The Pointdexter[1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, pufferfish-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman, and the counterpart of the Pointdexter from an alternate dimension set in the recent past.
Appearance
Based on pufferfish, Pointdexters have gray bodies with spikes all around, a blue face and occiput with yellow borders.
Overview
In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Pointdexters are enemies found in both Acts of Hydrocity Zone. In gameplay, they swim around slowly, periodically protruding and retracting their spikes. However, they make no effort to attack the player. If the playable character touches a Pointdexter while its spikes are out, they will take damage. Conversely though, Pointdexters can easily be destroyed by attacking them with a Spin Jump when their spikes are not out. Doing so will release the Animals inside of them and award the player with 100 points.
Powers and abilities
The Pointdexters are adapt swimmers and can protrude metal spikes from their bodies, the latter of which makes a direct attack on them very painful.
