This is Planet Mobius, a peaceful planet... but when the evil genius scientist Dr. Robotnik suddenly invades, Mobius is quickly conquered and in a state of panic!

Sonic Spinball Japanese manual[1]

Planet Mobius,[2] or simply just Mobius[3] (モビアス[1] Mobiasu?), is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the planet where Dr. Robotnik enacted his scheme to turn the world's fauna into robots, but was stopped by Sonic.

History[]

Sonic Spinball[]

In the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball, on Planet Mobius, Dr. Robotnik's enacted his most diabolical plan yet by turning the Animals of the planet into robots by mechanizing Mount Mobius into the "Veg-O-Fortress", which utilized a Pinball Defense System to eliminate intruders. Tails thus flew Sonic to the fortified mountain to collect the Chaos Emeralds and stop his plans.[1] When they got there, Sonic went in alone and climbed the mountain from the inside while destroying Robotnik's operations, eventually defeating Robotnik at the summit and escaping with Tails.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Mobius" may be a reference to a shape known as the Möbius strip, a shape with no clear start or end that appears to have multiple sides, when in fact there is only one.
  • This marks the only known time ''Mobius'' was used in Japanese sources, while Sonic's planet was either unnamed or titled ''Earth'' in Japan. For that reason, the Japanese game manual mentions it as being a different planet.
  • It is never explained how Sonic traveled there to stop Dr. Robotnik.
