Pink Spike[1][2] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Pink Wisp and companion of Whisper the Wolf. Pink Spike was the trusted companion of it's fallen partner, Smithy the Lion, who served as the team's craftsmen and unofficial leader.
Appearance[]
Like all Pink Wisp, Pink Spike has aspherical bodies with a trio of tentacles each, two of which are used as arms. They have a lone pale blue eye in the center of their heads and a quintet of short spikes atop each of their heads. As their name implies, their skin color is hot pink.
History[]
Past[]
At some point in the past, Pink Spike, along with their other fellow Wisps, and their planet came under the threat of Dr. Eggman. Fortunately, they were saved by Sonic the Hedgehog. Afterward, a bunch of Pink Wisps and other fellow Wisps settled down on Earth where they would help out the residents of Earth whenever they could.[3]
At some point after the Wisps settled on Earth, Pink Spike was a member of the Diamond Cutters as Smithy the Lion's partner, until he, along with Claire Voyance and Slinger the Ocelot, died in a trap set by Mimic the Octopus and Eggman. After the incident, the team's Wisps flocked to Whisper the Wolf, the Diamond Cutters' last survivor. Pink Spike would help out Whisper by powering her Variable Wispon under various circumstances.[4][5]
Silent Support[]
During a trip to one of Dr. Eggman's bases, Whisper and her team of Wisps (Pink Spike included) encountered Sonic and Silver. Despite Whisper's initial mistrust, once Pink Spike and other Wisps openly greeted Sonic, Whisper chose to team up with the duo. When the newly-formed trio then took on a horde of Badniks, Pink Spike came to Whisper's defense when she was at the mercy of the robots. Fortunately, Sonic and Silver destroyed the Badniks before they could harm them.[5]
Battle For Angel Island[]
When Whisper joined the Resistance on a mission to liberate Angel Island from the Eggman Empire, Pink Spike and other Wisps came along with her. After accomplishing their mission, Pink Spike celebrated their victory with Whisper.[6][7][8]
Bonds of Friendship[]
After Whisper and Tangle got Jewel the Beetle and the stolen goods from the Mineral Museum back from the Babylon Rogues, Pink Spike would help clean up the museum and return all the stolen stones.[9]
Tangle & Whisper[]
The Wisps support Tangle in her quest for adventure, from Sonic the Hedgehog: Tangle & Whisper #1.
Another day at the Mineral Museum, while Whisper explained who Mimic was to Tangle and Jewel, Pink Spike watched Green Hover levitate minerals in the air. After the Cyan Laser nearly made Green Hover drop them, Pink Spike helped catch the minerals. The Wisps soon gathered around Tangle to look at pictures of Mimic impersonating Sonic. When Tangle decided she should help Whisper catch him, the Wisps supported the lemur. After Whisper initially refused, the Wisps surrounded Tangle, eager for her to join them on the mission. Following this, Whisper agreed to let Tangle accompany her and the Wisps celebrated.[10]
Later, after Tangle and Whisper encountered Mimic, the Pink Wisp listened to Whisper as she told Tangle of her past. The Wisps soon convinced Whisper to allow Tangle to see what Mimic did to the team. Later, Pink Spike helped create a message to give to Mimic so that he would easily find and challenge them again. After the girls managed to defeat Mimic, Pink Spike joined them in going to Tails' workshop to have him imprison the shapeshifter.[4][11]
The Last Minute[]
In Spiral Hill Village, Whisper became hysterical upon learning from Sonic that Tangle got infected by the Metal Virus. Pink Spike helped Amy and other Wisps drag the wolf back to the Rescue Shuttle when she tried to run back into the village. In the shuttle, the Wisps tried to comfort Whisper as she cried into Cream's lap.[12]
All or Nothing[]
Pink Spike accompanied Whisper and Silver to Orchardville. It and the other Wisps (aside from Cyan Laser) held up prisms for Whisper to fire her laser at so that it could bounce off them and hit Zor. After collecting Zor's Chaos Emerald, Silver, Whisper and the Wisps returned to Angel Island.[13] After Super Sonic and Super Silver later reversed the effects of the Metal Virus on the world, the Zombots were cured. This included Tangle, who was soon happily swarmed by Whisper, Whisper's Pink Wisp and the other Wisps.[14]
Zeti Hunt![]
While Whisper's Pink Wisp accompanied Whisper to Restoration HQ, it would assist Whisper when she fought the intruding Deadly Six, namely by powering Whisper's Variable Wispon so she could shoot Master Zik, Zor and Zavok. After the fight however, Pink Spike found out that Belle had been kidnapped by Dr. Starline.[15]
Trial by Fire[]
It was later with some reluctance that Pink Spike joined Whisper when she departed from Restoration HQ in order to keep her friends out of harms way after learning that Mimic was free. Although Tangle caught them departing, she was unable to convince Pink Spike and its friends to stay.[16]
Another Grand Adventure for Jet the Hawk[]
Pink Spike was with the wolf playing cards with the other Wisps when Jet tried to get his calzone back from her.[17]
Overpowered[]
Surge absorbing Pink Wisp with the Dynamo Cage, from Sonic the Hedgehog #53.
During her fight with Surge, Whisper brought her Pink Wisp. During the fight, Surge grabbed the Pink Wisp and forcibly absorbed it via the Dynamo Cage. She then used it against Wisper[18] Surge would use the Pink Wisp during her fight against Sonic, Tails, and Metal Sonic. During the fight, the Dynamo Cage would break, freeing the Pink Wisp.[19] The Wisp would go to Sonic and follow him back to Restoration HQ, where it reunited with Whisper.[20]
Urban Warfare[]
Pink Spike accompanied her during the Diamond Cutters' attack on Eggperial City. It also joined her in the picnic that followed the destruction of the city.[21]
Misadventures and Endless Summer[]
Pink Spike was with her during her stay with the Diamond Cutters at Restoration HQ.[22] Pink Spike went with her during a beach day with Tangle, Jewel, and Sonic.[23]
Personality[]
Not much is known about their personality, but when first seeing Sonic again Pink Spike is very enthusiastic and happy to see him again.
