This boost gathers speed the longer you use it, consuming Rings once it reaches maximum power.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Phantom Dash is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

Description[]

The Phantom Dash's icon takes the form of a red energy ball moving forward like a meteor, leaving the red energy cubes produced by Infinite's Phantom Ruby copy behind in its wake. In gameplay, this power-up becomes a red aura with crooked streaks that surrounds the user and leaves the aforementioned energy cubes in its wake.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Phantom Dash can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Infinite and Warlock Infinite.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Phantom Dash by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Phantom Dash will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. Also, while the Phantom Dash is in effect, it will gather speed until it reaches maximum velocity. At that point however, it will start draining the user's Ring count until it wears off, or duration limit reached. In addition, any rival character who makes contact with the user while the Phantom Dash is in effect will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. Additionally, this power-up will temporarily apply a red filter with red energy cubes along the edges to the screen, replace all Item Boxes and Dash Panels they encounter with Spikes, and make Badniks indestructible for those who get injured by the Phantom Dash. All of these effects linger for a short amount of time, before wearing off. To avoid the Phantom Dash, the playable character has to step out of its lanes.

The Phantom Dash can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 2, 8 and 14 respectively. For each upgrade, the Phantom Dash will deal greater damage.
