The Phantom Bomb is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Phantom Bomb takes the form of a crimson ring with a crimson aura radiating from it and Phantom Ruby cubes floating above it, both as an icon and during gameplay.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Phantom Bomb can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Cursed Samurai Infinite . As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Phantom Bomb if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Phantom Bomb by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, a portal will appear above the user's next rival if the user is behind said rival. If the user is leading the race however, then the portal will target the rival characters directly behind them. Regardless, the portal will float in the air above its target for a few moments before coming down on them. If a rival character gets struck by the portal as it comes down, they will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. To avoid the Phantom Bomb, the playable character has to step away from the portal before it locks onto its target.
The Phantom Bomb can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the player will increase the damage dealt with the Phantom Bomb.
