The Petit Step (プチステップ Puchi Suteppu?) is a recurring move in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the Big Air technique used by Cream the Rabbit.

Description[]

When performing the Petit Step, Cream thrusts herself upwards with a spring in midair while holding her hands downwards to gain extra height.

In gameplay, this move is useful for reaching areas that are otherwise difficult to get to (without flying) and avoiding falling into gaps. In addition, it will not cancel the momentum Cream receives from the Boost Mode. Petit Step cannot damage enemies though, and using it leaves Cream open to harm. The move can also only be pulled off after Cream has been launched into midair by gimmicks like the Spring or Ramp.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Advance 2[]

Petit Step debuted for the first time in Sonic Advance 2, alongside other Big Air maneuvers. To perform it in gameplay, the player must press up on Directional buttons and the R Button at the same time after being launched into midair by gimmicks.

Sonic Advance 3[]

In Sonic Advance 3, the Petit Step is both Cream's Big Air maneuver and one of her Special Actions.[1] In this game, Cream can only use the move when having Amy Rose as her partner. To use the Petit Step in gameplay, the player has to press up on Directional buttons and the R Button at the same time after being launched into midair by gimmicks, just like in Sonic Advance 2.
