Performance Parts[1] are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are unlockable Mods for racing cars that can change the performance and appearance of said vehicles.
Performance Parts are basically additional components for race cars. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, although they typically take the form of collective components for the front (which include the hood, engine, head lamps and front bumper), rear (which include the trunk, tailfins, rear position lamps, exhausts and rear bumper) and wheels (which include the hubcaps and tires).
Overview
In Team Sonic Racing, the Performance Parts are Mods used in gameplay to directly affect the stats of the different race cars in the game. In addition, when adding a Performance Part to a race car, the player will change the appearance of a section of the race car. When modifying a race car with Performance Parts, they typically increase one or two stats while decreasing one or two other stats. The stats a Performance Part can affect includes:
Acceleration: The rate at which speed increases.
Boost: The boost strength and duration.
Defense: Sturdiness upon collision and attack.
Handling: Agility when navigating tight corners.
Top Speed: The highest speed the racer can go.
Each character gets its own unique eighteen Performance Parts to choose from which are divided into three equal-sized sets each for the race car's front, rear, and wheels, giving a total of 270 Performance Parts in the game. The set that the Performance Part falls under determines which part of the race car it modifies in terms of appearance when applied to the race car. Performance Parts can be added, swapped and removed at the player's leasure and can be combined with any other Performance Part available to its associated race car. However, the race cars can only be equipped with one Performance Part from one part category at any given time.
At the beginning of the game, no Performance Parts will be avilable to the player. However, available Performance Parts will increase as the player progresses through Team Adventure and buy Mod Pods. When a new Performance Part is added to the player's inventory, it will be marked with a yellow circle containing a "!" symbol until it has been looked up. Between races or in the Garage, the player can customize their race cars with the Performance Parts. The player also has the option to save the Performance Parts they have added to their race car.
When using Mod Pods, the player has a chance to obtain Legendary Performance Parts. They are rarer, gold-colored (with white neon where applicable) versions of the regular Performance Parts and retain the same stats. If the player equips three Legendary parts onto a race car, it will turn the entire race car gold.
