The Pepper People[1] are a group that appears in the Sonic Boom series. They are a tribe of anthropomorphic chili peppers that Knuckles the Echidna imagined during a pepper-induced dream.[1]
Description[]
Characteristics and culture[]
The Pepper People are a clan of harden and fierce warriors despite their size, who follow a "never surrender" philosophy in battle. The Pepper People all closely follow the leadership of the Lost Pepper of Claggerhorn, whom they hold outmost respect for, instantly silencing on his command and being shocked when Knuckles asked their leader a personal question. They were likewise driven intensely by their desire to reclaim Claggerhorn from the residents of the Unnamed Village. As warriors, they are also adept at using weapons.[1]
History[]
TV series[]
Season one[]
In the dream Knuckles had after losing consciousness from eating a new type of pepper, the Pepper People lived in Claggerhorn until they were driven out from there by an unknown force and were forced to live in the Lands of the Doomed. However, it was prophesied that a big oaf would appear and lead the Pepper People back home.[1]
When Knuckles landed in their stronghold, the Pepper People tied him up while the Lost Pepper of Claggerhorn interrogated him and told him the story of how his people lost their home. Declaring Knuckles their prophesied oaf after hearing his dimwitted response to their story, the Pepper People decided to have Knuckles led their attack on the site occupying Claggerhorn: the Village Center. Moved by their story, Knuckles agreed to lead the Pepper People's attack, and assaulted the Chili Dog Cook-Off with them. As Sonic reminded Knuckles that he was attacking his own friends, Lost Pepper reminded him that he had to choose sides regardless. As Lost Pepper and Sonic then charged towards each other, Knuckles made his choice by knocking Lost Pepper into a chili pot. Noticing the pots were like their old hot springs, the Pepper People made a truce: they could soak in the villagers' chili pots, and the villagers could use their extracted juices. When learning that the villagers planned to use their juices for food sauce, Lost Pepper initially objected to this and tried to break the truce, but after tasting a chili dog laced with his juices, he changed his mind. As Lost Pepper then tried telling the others of the lesson he had learned, Knuckles' dream ended.[1]
Uniform[]
The Pepper People, being warriors, are characterized by the typical combat clothing they wear, such as a helmets. Their faces are painted with blue paint, and they carry various types of rustic medieval weapons, from shields and swords to bows and spears.[1]
Trivia[]
- The Pepper People are based on the Scottish warriors in the film Braveheart.
- The Pepper People appear as action figures in Dave the Intern's room in "Next Top Villain." This may imply that the Pepper People in Knuckles' dream could have been inspired by those figures on a subconscious level.
