Patrick "Spaz" Spaziante is an American comic book artist. He was a regular contributor to the Sonic the Hedgehog comics series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, along with illustrating other comics, including Archie's Mega Man comic series. His first Sonic work was the interior art for the story "The Mirror Zone" in the Sonic the Hedgehog In Your Face!. He has also been contributing to the Sonic the Hedgehog series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing.

Spaziante was the longest running artist for the Sonic comics published by Archie Comics, as well as one of the most prolific. His contributions were mostly cover art, although he occasionally did interior art (mostly in the earlier days of the series).

Spaziante's work has been praised by fans, particularly for how detailed and in line it is with official artwork his work tends to be.

History[]

Spaziante was a member of a group along with Ken Penders and Steven Butler known collectively as "Team Sonic", because of their extensive work on the series. The trio interviewed with Offenberger as they approached Sonic the Hedgehog #150’s release. In the interview, Spaz talked about the early years he spent as an up-and-coming comic book artist with Archie Comics and what it was like to work his way up.[1]

  • Spaz has illustrated the cover of every Archie Sonic the Hedgehog milestone issue, starting with Sonic the Hedgehog #25.
  • Spaziante often signs his work with his pen name, "Spaz" (derived from the first part of his surname, and a play on the shorter term for the word "spastic").
