Operation: Triple Threat[1] is an event that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a three-pronged attack attempted by Dr. Eggman following Sonic the Hedgehog's return from space.

History[]

Past[]

Dr. Eggman began preparations for Operation: Triple Threat roughly two months after the Xorda Attack on Mobius, using the time to construct two nuclear warheads, a battleship, and horde of Badniks.[2][1]

Home[]

Roughly 10 months later[2][1], Sonic returned to Mobius through a wormhole outside Argentium, prompting Dr. Eggman to frantically initiate Operation: Triple Threat by sending a horde of Badniks to the Badlands, and arming the two warhead missiles on the battleship in Old Megaopolis Harbor. Eggman then hijacked the Technolotree in Knothole Village, and used it to broadcast a boastful message about his plan to the Knothole Freedom Fighters. Through the transmission, Robotnik explained he had commanded the Badnik horde to destroy the shield surrounding Robotropolis (thereby poisoning the surrounding landscape), and was simultaneously preparing to launch the two warhead missiles, one at Knothole, and one at Station Square respectively, daring the heroes to try and prevent Operation: Triple Threat.[1]

In response, the Knothole Freedom Fighters and Chaotix split up to deal with each individual threat. Knuckles, Julie-Su, Vector, Mighty, and Amy Rose traveled to Fort Acorn to assist Armand D'Coolette and the Mes Braves Battalion against the Badniks, while Sonic and Tails used the Tornado to travel to Old Megaopolis Harbor in order to prevent the launch of the missiles. Meanwhile, the United Federation dispatched Paladin Team Sigma-Alpha 2 and Rouge the Bat to bolster the defenses at Fort Acorn.[3]

Arriving at Old Megaopolis Harbor, Sonic attempted to arrest Eggman, only to be attacked by Eggman's "daughter" Mecha. Meanwhile, Tails hacked into Eggman's hard drive, accidentally infecting the Tornado's systems with Eggman's "son" A.D.A.M. in the process. While Vector and Amy used their skills to help repel the attacking robots at Fort Acorn, Sonic was thrown into the ocean by Mecha, and Fiona, Patch (disguised as Antoine), Bunnie, Espio, Geoffrey, and Hershey arrived at Old Megaopolis Harbor for support in the Freedom Fighter Special Mark 2. Tails also managed to distract A.D.A.M. from driving the Tornado into the ocean by questioning him with riddles, a prospect which amused him. Although Sonic swam back to the dock from the lake, and encountered Mecha again, Eggman's plan was soon interrupted by the mysterious arrival of Shadow the Hedgehog.[4]

While Shadow expressed his desire to kill Eggman, and Tails continued telling A.D.A.M riddles, the Badnik Horde performed a final assault on Fort Acorn against the Freedom Fighters and G.U.N. agents stationed there, which proved unsuccessful, and resulted in the destruction of the group of Badniks. Meanwhile, Sonic was almost defeated by Mecha, but received support from Bunnie and the other Freedom Fighters, the former of whom he directed to take "Antoine" (Patch) and destroy Robotnik's carrier. Bunnie reluctantly agreed, and upon arriving, Eggman fled in a submarine and directed A.D.A.M to launch the missiles. However, before he could do so, Shadow brought Patch to safety, and Bunnie destroyed the carrier with her cybernetics. The other Freedom Fighters continued to fight Mecha, who was eventually defeated when Sonic dropped he into a sewer tunnel. All the Freedom Fighters then returned to Knothole, while Shadow remained at the harbor to reflect upon the event.[2]
