Ocean View (オーシャンパレス[1] Ōshan Paresu?, lit. "Ocean Palace") is the first track of the Dragon Cup in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, representing the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It is located in Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes.
Description[]
The track primarily consists of an elevated stone track based on Seaside Hill and Ocean Palace, complete with loops to drive through and the reappearance of Kaos. The race leads into the ocean in the final lap, where racers will shift to boat mode and navigate segments filled with hazards such as a Giant Chopper, a giant robotic squid, and the infamous orca from Sonic Adventure.
Overview[]
The race starts with a series of corners that lead uphill. On the right side of the second swing is a grass field, which the player with a Boost item can cross over to take a shortcut. Alternatively, the player can find a hidden token and hidden super pickup with three Boost items around this area. To do that, at the very beginning of the race, just before the first turn to the left, there will be a hole in the barrier on the right side the racetrack's edge. The player can enter this aforementioned hole in order to arrive on an unseen route where they have to cross two platforms suspended in the air without falling into the sea. After crossing these platforms on this hidden route, the player will land on an uphill route. By following it, the player will arrive at a ramp which they can jump off of and return to the main track, getting acceleration from aerial stunts in the process.
From here on, the player will follow the main route for a while, which will eventually turn left for a long time and lead to a fork in the road. The route on the left is shorter, but it has three rows of Kao rolling across it. After avoiding the Kaos, the player will then have to turn left in order to reach the home stretch. The route on the right at the fork in the road on the other hand is longer, but free of obstacles. This one leads through a large loop before coming to an abrupt end, which the player can jump off of. During this jump, the player can pull off several stunts. At the point where the two routes reconvene, the road will turn to the left and lead straight to the finish line.
The race leads into the ocean in the final lap, starting with a tunnel. At the end is a long left turn, followed by a fork. The right route is the main route. The left route on the other hand starts with a ramp that leads to a shortcut. If the player takes the main route, there will be another fork. The left route is the main route. The right route on the other hand starts with a ramp that leads to a super pickup containing three Fireworks. When the three routes reconvene, there will be a curve looking like an S from the alphabet, followed by one last fork. The player can transform back into car mode earlier by taking the right route or later by taking the left route. When both routes reconvene, the finish line will await.
Trivia[]
Big, as seen from one of the stills when starting the track.
- Big the Cat makes a cameo appearance in this stage. He can be seen fishing from a cliff if the player follows the Giant Chopper.
- This is the only new track in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed based on a Sonic the Hedgehog level to not have its original theme remixed, as Galactic Parade and Sanctuary Falls remix the themes from Starlight Carnival and Sky Sanctuary.
- The music is a remix of "Sonic - You Can Do Anything" from Sonic the Hedgehog CD followed by a remix of "Super Sonic Racing" from Sonic R, the music doesn't depend on the vehicle type section like in some others races as Graveyard Gig. The pre-race flyover for this course is accompanied by a remix of the Japanese title screen theme from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.
- The second Super Pickup in the boat part is bugged, three drones can be obtained, but nothing happens if the item is used in the water, and the drones turn into giant slow-motion ice while used on ground.
- In the 3DS version, the Super Pickup instead gives the player three fireworks.
