No Place uses the same map as Green Hill, with the biggest difference being that the entire map is submerged by a high level of water. Though the general layout is the same, the submerged Green Hill does feature some differences from the original, mostly in the form of various decorations that include coral, kelp, and piles of rings. There are also some terrain differences, though, such as various pillars of ground around the starting area of Green Hill that replace the Sonic statue, race area, and shops. Featured in the middle of the zone is the Angel's Voyage, which is somewhat smaller than its counterpart on the show, but still features the same basic layout. Off in the distance, the island that Sonic lands on when he first winds up in the zone can be seen, though it cannot be accessed due to an invisible wall blocking the way to it.
Gameplay[]
The water that covers the area slows movement and can be "swam" through by repeatedly jumping, also necessitating the player to occasionally pop air bubbles to avoid drowning. The water's surface can also be traversed by boosting or using a hoverboard, and the water itself can be flown through using the Marvelous Queen. In addition to the standard collectables of Chaos Orbs, Rings, Red Star Rings and Sky Rings, the zone also features Doubloon, as well as many hidden treasure chests scattered around the zone. When entering the world, the player spawns on the Angel's Voyage, which features all of the zone's events, portals to Green Hill and New Yoke, and canons that quickly shoot the player to the bottom of the water. There are also various pieces of flotsam around the ship, some of which have springs attached to them that return the player to the ship, which can also be found in various places under the water. When submerged, there is also a button at the top of the HUD that instantly teleports the player back aboard the Angel's Voyage.
Overview[]
No Place can be accessed through a portal in the "worlds" section of Green Hill's starting area, or through a similar portal that can be found in New Yoke next to the Emerald Hill portal. Unlike most other worlds, there are no prerequisites for it to be accessed, meaning everyone can enter the world and begin the events it contains immediately.
No Place Adventure[]
Black Rose[]
This questline must be completed to unlock Black Rose.
Though the standard amount of time the player can be underwater without popping an air bubble is 60 seconds, this timer is increased to 75 seconds for Vector and his alternate outfits, and the timer is removed entirely for all robot characters and Adventure Knuckles.
Angler Big has unique physics when interacting with the water. When in the water but not touching the ground, he will begin floating back to the surface. The player can press the spindash section to drop him down, and if he reaches the area's ground, then he will stop floating and start walking along the terrain like usual. Jumping will cause him to begin floating again, though pressing the jump button once he is already floating will not have any effect.
A flower made of stone can be found in the same spot that a trampled flower can be found in a lake in Green Hill.
Near the top of the zone, there is a destroyed enchantment shrine, near where it was in the legacy version of Green Hill.
There is a small cave sealed off by a set of lasers, referencing both Green Reef zone and the location of Chemical Plant's entrance from the legacy version of the game.
An arrangement of small sea stars can be found that resemble Nibroc Sarkaria's icon.
If playing as Sonic (No Place style), as long as he isnโt in a spinning system he can stand and move along water, just like in the show. However, jumping or spin-dashing will cause him to submerge.
This ability was later also given to ESP Silver.
Via exploiting the collisions of the invisible walls of the world, it is possible to clip out of bounds and even reach the island Sonic woke up on in Sonic Prime. If the player travels for long enough they can also find a secret island with "SOS" on it.
