- It's been a long rough road, and I'm finally here - Shadow remembering who he was at the end of Shadow the Hedgehog.
- Is it true? - Shadow not knowing who is telling the truth about his past and who he is.
- Got a hundred-thousand pounds sitting on my back - Shadow carrying the weight of the whole world OR Super Shadow transporting the Black Comet into space and throwing it into the range of the Eclipse Cannon.

- If I Am... All of Me can be seen as Black Doom's opinion of himself and Shadow's perspective of the game's events, then Never Turn Back can be seen as Shadow's response to that and vice versa.
- The piano intro of the song is similar to the chorus of I Am... All of Me. The piano intro is actually the final song in the game called I Am... The Story Is Over.
- There is a stray piano key that is played just as the drums come in after the piano intro
- The song itself is a hard rock song that is typical to the band's style, but instead of a guitar riff at the beginning like most of their songs, it opens with lead singer Johnny Gioeli singing "Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!"
