Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome is a subject that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a rare, incurable and potentially fatal disease.
History
Professor Gerald Robotnik originally intended to find a cure to Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome to save his granddaughter, Maria. To this end, Gerald agree to lead the United Federation's Project Shadow, seeing the project's immortality research as a potential for a cure. However, the project fell apart when the military shut it down and killed or imprisoned those involved when they deemed the project's result, Shadow, a threat.[1]
