The Mysterious Orb,[1] also known as the Mystic Orb,[2] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mysterious orb of dark power[3] that Metal Sonic obtained from Lost Labyrinth Zone.

Description[]

The artifact appears to be a very powerful energy source. When harnessing the dark powers[3] gained from it, Metal Sonic's physical attributes were amplified to the point where he could destroy entire track lines with a single Spin Dash and turn himself temporarily invulnerable when focusing its power. In addition, the artifact bestowed Metal Sonic with the ability to manipulate different energies. By charging his power, Metal Sonic's body would give off energy shockwaves, discharges and a magenta aura. He could also generate pillars of electricity and create massive energy spheres.

Game appearances[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 4[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal, Metal Sonic finds the Mysterious Orb in an altar in a hidden room in Lost Labyrinth Zone. He walks up to the altar and absorbs the treasure. After absorbing the orb, Metal Sonic gains a massive energy surge and blasts through the zone, moving onto the next one.

Upon arrival at Splash Hill Zone, Metal Sonic uses the power of the treasure to scare the gaily bounding Animals, before using a nearby rocket to continue his pursuit of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, Metal Sonic uses powers he gained from the artifact to attack Sonic and Tails in two of the five boss battles he is involved in. However, his efforts prove futile as Metal Sonic is defeated once again.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed[]

In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the treasure shows up when Metal Sonic uses his All-Star Move. When activated, the artifact upgrades Metal's speed and his Black Shield attack, greatly increasing its radius and knock-back power.

Sonic Speed Simulator[]

In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Mysterious Orb appears in large quantities and can be found along and outside the race track in the Metal Madness stage.

In gameplay, the Mysterious Orbs are objects that appear in Metal Madness during the "Metal Madness Event", where collecting 3,000 of them will unlock the Neon Lime Chao and contribute to the unlocking of Metal Sonic as a playable character. Mysterious Orbs along the Metal Madness racetrack always appear in fixed spots. When a Mysterious Orb has been found, the player can touch it in order to collect it. When collected, a gauge will then appear on the left side of the HUD that shows how many Mysterious Orbs the player has left to collect before unlocking the Neon Lime Chao. In addition, the Mysterious Orbs in Metal Madness will respawn every time the player retries said stage.

In the Metal Returns Event, the mysterious orbs return, where now, you have to collect 50,000 of them to unlock Metal Sonic, but the amount you get per orb collected has increased to 25. Breaking the new Balloons added to the stage reward you with 100 aswell.

If the player collects the required amount of Mysterious Orbs, they will not spawn anymore. However, players who do not have the required amount still have a chance to collect them.
