Mutant Wrestling[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a fighting video game played by Team Sonic.

Gameplay[]

Mutant Wrestling is a two-dimensional multiplayer loosely based on professional wrestling games, but more closely resembles a beat-'em up video game. Here, two players each takes control of a mutant version of a colorful anthropomorphic animal in a wrestling outfit (two playable characters have been revealed so far). The objective of the game is to defeat the opposing player in combat. The last player left standing is the winner.[2]

The matches take place in a standard wrestling ring. Players can fight using combos and combo breakers (the execution of the latter causes the in-game announcer to shout "C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER"). Each time a successful attack is performed on a player, their respective health meter on the top of the screen depletes. Once a player's health is completely depleted, they will be defeated and a victory animation for the winner is played.[2]

History[]

TV series[]

Season one[]

SB S1E14 Sonic Knuckles video game

Eggman and Knuckles playing Mutant Wrestling.

While incognito in Sonic's body, Dr. Eggman played Mutant Wrestling with Knuckles. Upon winning a match though, Eggman nearly blew his cover.[2]

Season two[]

Sonic and Tails would play Mutant Wrestling every night while Sonic lived in Tails' House. Sonic's constant victories proved damaging to his and Tails' friendship however.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The in-game announcer for Mutant Wrestling shouting "C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER" is a reference to the Killer Instinct franchise owned by Microsoft.
  • A slightly altered version of the Pac-Man theme is used as the background music for Mutant Wrestling.[2]
